I know it may have been nothing, good to turn back but I just cant help thinking that Air France are a bunch of dodgy buggers.

It's safe to say I will not be flying with them.. Ever

"Air France had begun flying the brand-new A380 across the Atlantic only days before, Airbus said."

Better safe than sorry with a brand new aircraft..

You what?

Af, have a small issue with a Plane, turn round and head home for safety's sake, and all's well. But you think they are a bunch of "Dodgy Buggers"?

Why?

I'm sure they'll be ever so keen to jump on any AIRBUS non-story. Smacks of propaganda.

How is this news? I would imagine this happens reasonably regularly with all airlines.

exactly my thought. HAving flown many times to the states over the years TWA and Continental strike me as two of the "then" worse operating companies for sheer st in the air. So bad that on one return flight in an old continental dc10 probably, we had to return from nova scotia due to a fuel leak in the rear engine. A week earlier an exact same model plane (not the same one they claimed) had a fuel leak on take off from ringway.

As with concorde the yanks will try anything to kill off an airbus venture. Interestingly enough I found a disc last night that has a copy of a photo I took of the first flying a380 whilst parked at the HQ a few days before the first test flight back when I worked there.

For scale it has an a320 passing in front of it about 800 yards closer, the a380 still made it look small

Had the same thing happen on a BA Boeing 777 (to Jamaica) once if it makes you feel any safer(!)

Damn thing took off two hours late after they fixed a fault in an engine & then two hours out over the Atlantic the pilot says "looks like they didn't fix it properly, turning around".

Bloody long day that was mad

Still, we lived to tell the tale.

Turning back to fix something that's a bit wonky isn't dodgy is it?

Air France are far from being " a bunch of dodgy buggers" hehe

similar to the 777 issue was on my dc10 flight. We returned after getting to the point of no return so it was still closer to get back to new york. So 3 hours in, 3 hours back then sat in a plane refused to let us off for 4 hours whilst they fixed it and then flew us back.

Silent flight for 7 and a half hours. Now remember the spanish crash last year or the year before? Similar situation, refused to let passengers off and forced them (to their death) on a faulty plane that should have been grounded

In my book as soon as such a fault is found they should arrange an alternate flight rather than force passengers like this. Basically they cost your life vs the cost of a fresh plane and it makes you worth peanuts

until they say what the problem was i find it hard to criticise at all. for safety they turned back and all was well anyway. sound decision.
