Here is a good FATIST (or is it FATophobia?) thread to stir the debate again.
The above link shows a clear example of why FAT people should be treated differently to normal people when it comes to public transport.

Especially on airplanes where (1) there is a safety risk with exiting the plane...(2) they clearly take up too much space and compromise the comfort of others. (this could apply to all pbulic transport actually).

What is it in the mind-set of FAT people (to the above extent especially) that says..."hmmm...I'm still hungry, I need more pies"?
Do they still blame it on big bones?

I think its right they should at least pay for two seats...(and more if they are sweaty!!) wink

agreed. Fatties should pay by the kilo, the driver should have a set of scales next to the ticket machine.

The plane should never have left the ground with old triple chin sat in that position.

An excellent choice of thread sir.

You should have to 'weigh yourself in' as well as your baggage when flying - you have an allowance which is the combined mass of your body and belongings - chunkies pay more!

Or

Fat folk should declare their weight and girth on the booking sheet and be charged additional seatage as appropriate in advance.

That's all well and good but what do you do if like me, your cock weighs a good 3 kilos?

Should I be financially punished for being hung like an african elephant?

Your concept is flawed.

There's fat and there's that guy (assuming its a genuine photo)...out of interest, can anyone define here what "fat" is?

he shuold never have been allowed to fly without booking two seats. And the pilot / airline should be done for allowing the flight to take place while endangering other passengers.

Imagnie if he'd booked with Ryanair - they would not only have charged him excess for another seat, but also for excess weight if he weighed more than two people, would have charged him double if he went to the loo (would he have fitted into it?).... but on the lighter side, the pasasenger would have bought three times as many expensive drinks and sandwiches from them.

How on earth would he fit the life jacket round him? The belts wouldn't even meet!

Sorry to hear aboot the unusual growth on your knob.

But to weight? I am not sure on that. More size. A hefty person will not infringe on your enjoyment of the flight (though any lil thing can ruin an economy flight for me), but an oversize person can. If the person is a giant or a fatty then buying two seats seems fair.
This fella used to do that, and he did not have a choice as regards it, unlike some ppl do cannot equate calories=size.

Shouldn't it be more waist-size orientated?

Not wishing to stir up the "I weight st loads because I play rugby" debate again, however, I know some big guys that would fit quite ok in a seat, but muscle means they weigh a tonne!

I'm surprised they allowed that guy on the plane, surely it's a safety risk having someone that big on board? They should have put him in the cargo hold.

To be honest though, seats on public transport are always too small, particularly in legroom. Fatties should still be banned from using it though.

One of dad's business partners is a 'big chap'. I believe he buys two tickets when he flys easy jet, but don't quote me on that. He certainly wouldn't be able to fit in one seat

On the flipside, it is immensely annoying when you're vertically unchallenged and the 'Speedy boarders' appear to consist entirely of the local hobbit pride society who head straight to all of the legroom seats.

Ah yes, I recently took a flight where all said seats appeared to have been nabbed by dwarves. fking irritating.

SWMBO works for a US domestic airline, and it is a bit of an issue.

While their legroom is better than your average no frills carrier, larger passengers on busyflights cause them no end of trouble. Where possible they're moved to an empty row, but more often than not (commuter flights, for example)that's not possible. And while some try charge the more corpulent passengers in advance, when they get to the airport and through to the gate (thanks to e-check in, they don't see the check in staff) it's too late.

Short of a pre-flight measuring and subisquent charge there's very little they can do.

And why are fatties allowed the same luggage quota? Surely if you weight 20 stone, your luggage allowance shouldn't be the same as a person who weights 10 stone, or they should pay excess baggage! Not sure how that would work though:

How tall are you...
Please get on the scales...
Well the average weight for your height range is...
Yes fk off your too fat to get on this plane unless your only luggage is your passport

biggrin

On the other hand, it is quite entertaining watching their little legs windmilling as they scuttle for the exit-row seats... wink

I assume that they have to allocate them seats close to the doors? Imagine that in an emergency that chap had to evacuate the plane through one of the emergecy window exits. Everyone else would be knackered.
