On the politics show today...shock horroreek a BNP MEP was asked onto a show and didn't talk aboot immigration/integration. He and a LD MEP (I think, also missed the beginning so sorry if immigration was discussedtongue out) next to him and Nick actually made more sense and sounded more on the ball and less intellectually insincere (Nick brought up the LDers shares in a green tech company). Nick said we should go for the nuclear option and deep tidal power....holy moley Batman is the BNP slowly moving into the political mainstream?yikes

BNP jump on populist bandwagon shocker.

There is a difference between acting like a main stream party and being one. I don't see how a racist party can ever be considered mainstream, however plausible some of the other things they say are.

And yet the sexist Labour and Tories, with their "all female" lists are mainstream.
I guess provided you are "anti-white" or "anti-male" it's all OK?

They are a lot more dangerous once they start adopting mainstream politics. Makes them more palatable to the myopic and hard-of-thinking.

I'm not sure if it is jumping on the populist bandwagon'. There are a lot of people who do adhere to the CO2 and man made climate change thingy. It's not so black and white as the parties are for it and everyone else is against it.

A Times poll showed that ~25% of UK believed in MMGW

I'd be surprised if that were correct? It would mean we're more sceptical as a nation than the Yanks, which seems unlikely.

This is the problem with the BNP, when they talk sense that the average person in the street can comprehend, they appeal more and more. I hardly speak to anyone who belives all the bullst on global warming, but if you say a lie loud enough and long enough it will be believed. MMGW is the "kings New Clothes". Funnily enough no one has said it was Thatchers fault yet from the labour party.

The BNP will grow while ever the mainstream talk of "quatative easing" rather than printing money, whilst they support the workshy, while they support uncontrolled imigration etc etc. All of the parties need to go back and speak truthfully and plainly.

And parties like BNP and UKIP will continue to eat into the mainstream parties until they take the bull by the balls and actually make a fist of dealing with some of the issues like uncontroled immigration that the average man on the street sees as important.

Something doesn't have to be a majority view for it to be populist. They are going after the vote of a particular demographic and saying what they think that group want to hear.

They might believe what they say and they might even be right, but their reason for making that statement has little to do with any search for scientific truth, and everything to do with improving their standing with their target voters.

I'm no Nick Griffin or BNP fan but if they are best representing the views of their constituents then whats the problem?

I'd rather have a party (any party) that acts on the majority view than a party (Labour) who try and tell the majority what their veiws should be.

Still don't get it. What's wrong with going for the votes of a particular demographic? It doesn't matter what the reasoning is behind their policies as far as I'm concerned, so long as they implement what they say they will the reasoning behind the policies can be left down to the voter.
