Apparently GB flew into Afgahnistan last night, to meet & greet the troops. Whilst that's not unusual for a minister/PM, he appears to have slept at the base overnight, rather than stay somewhere safer out of the area.

Whatever you think of the guy, that has to be seen as somewhat courageous. You could of course, take the view that a member of the cabinet should always be stationed there,on rotation, as a way to focus their attention on the realities of what we're involved in out there.

You're right, it's a f-cking dangerous place for Brown with all those British troops in there.

Any one of them could have taken a shot at him...

I can readily associate many words to describe that walking pestilence upon our economy, ‘courageous’ certainly isn’t one of them.

I'm sorry but you can bet that whilst he slept in a sand bag reinforced shelter every service man and woman will have been up on station and patrol within 10 miles. And that every Afghan was informed to stay inside their homes overnight.

I think all of the cabinet, his advisers and the rest of the entire Labour party would have advised him to go there, just in case. They probably leaked the news beforehand as well so plans could have been made.

I suspect its the last thing the guys and girls out there need right now, how many 'carbons' has this pointless gesture wasted?

The bloke is a fking wker and as soon as we get rid of him the better. I don't think there is a single army town in the country where a labour candidate will win this time round. They loathe him.

Courageous my arse, when you're desperate to get re-elected you'll try anything.

He is only trying to claim eligibility for a campaign medal - Oh...and blag an extra capture on his next history back and how he saw it in the making.

Move him up to an FOB for a look, perhaps even by land if there is no heli available for this low priority taxi ride with no benefit whatsoever for the war effort (unless photo ops for a forthcoming GE are considered important by anyone other than the ZNL tapeworms)

You really are a snivelling little Labour arse-licker, aren't you?

Courage is not desperation. And these days the prick is so unpopular pretty much every visit is a surprise, lest the voters organise a display of 'affection'.

Back in the UK, Mandelson's trying to work out why Gordy's death isn't front-page news and exactly which Afghan insurgent failed to 'do the deed'...

How many troops actually had to go out and ensure his safety ergo putting their own safety on the line so he can be seen as 'courageous'

Funny how he did it on a Saturday night, just in time before the final print run for the Sunday papers
