Indeed, it is chicken and egg. But it still takes two to make a contractual agreement and ruin the economy.

....not so much greed as stupidity....but the banks should not have pandered to such stupidity.

I remember way back when if one wanted a loan from a bank one had to go to see the bank manager....and getting the loan or even part of the loan one wanted was far from easy and I am sure that bank manager was not getting any commission on the loan he approved....oh how things changed for the worse.....sell what you can....grab the commission....and run for the hills. Bandits.....just 'feckin bandits....may they rot in hell.

I'd blame the regulators that allowed commissions on selling of personal loans. Nobody, and certainly not bankers, made people borrow money.

Indeed. Nobody forced them to sign on the dotted line. I just cannot accept that it is purely the bankers' fault. I could have bought a £5m house and be up to my eyeballs in debt... I chose not to.

Change the fking record - it was lacks regulation by the FSA (being created and leant on by Winky) that allowed this to happen.

As has been stated over and over on here.

You may want to do a little research first wink

Before either the chicken or the egg in this case, there were the politicians in the US who passed laws effectivley forcing major lenders to loan on sub prime mortgages and in the UK lax regulation that didnt control the sale & marketing of repackaged debt products.

When properly regulated greedy bankers = profitable pension funds, they are after all paid to make money wink

Yeah, but the truth wouldn't make a good tabloid headline for the proles to snigger at.
