Hang on a cotton picking second..... the whole lot is soluble in water.....

I can also imagine that the sticky factor of molasses is also reduced to a minimum around freezing temperatures....

What a hare brained idea?

They use cheese by products in Denmark if I remember correctly, plenty of other alternatives to salt.

In use elsewhere in the country, I thought.

Allegedly the reason cars were so filthy around these parts last winter.

Been used in Kent for the last few years, makes a mess of your car, and makes it more slippery when it's dry. Absolutely terrible stuff.

In February I was hillwalking in Kintail, the little side road we went up turned to sheet ice at the end.
We turned and found a layby to park.
As we were getting our boots on, along came the gritter, turned and headed back down the road, then a pregnant cow and her calf walked in front of it, the gritter stopped for a while, then eventually 'Madam' moved aside.
The gritter moved off, and the cow and her calf then proceeded to eat the pile of salt on the road.

Dumb animals?
