An unknown number of troops crossed the border and raised an Iranian flag over the Fakkah oil field, a US military spokesman told the AFP news agency.
They are understood to have stayed for several hours and then withdrawn back across the border.
“This news is not true,” Deputy Interior Minister Ahmed Ali al-Khafaji told the Reuters news agency.
“This field is disputed and now it is neglected by both sides. There was no storming of the field. It’s empty, it’s abandoned. It is exactly on the border of Iraq and Iran.”

king sin bin for that one.hmmm what we need to do is put someone in power in Iraq for instance, then arm the Iranians, then we drill diagnally in Kuwait thru to steal Iraqs oil, Our man in Iraq wont take that and will invade Kuwait and kickstart a war, we can tell each of them where they are about to be ambushed etc. Would be carnage for them, we could destroy both countries for decades, thats how we stay ahead of the game. We know the turks would use the oppertunity so we better give our man in Iraq some chemicals to use on them.
Oh hang on a minute, been there done that

king sin bin for that one.I may have to accompany you on an educational trip to a certain peppermint hippo.
Its good that we will soon have no Nimrods for 2 years, that our very limited fleet to be of Type 45s have no weapons on board, that they are unsure if we need Tranche 3 Typhoons, that we are running out of hours on the C130Ks.
That the government has decided to purchase A400m which will have a very useful Air to air refuelling capability, then sign a contract saying we are not allowed to use it, that we are getting less submarines than were needed to replace the old, that the amount of soldiers returned from Afghanistan from injusries is greater than the number that are available to send. That we pretty much have no combat SAR capability and very soon what is left of our SAR will likely be privatised.
Its a good job that Labour is cutting the military while it is involved in a war and adopting a very short sighted approach. Just hope they dont end up in Iran and Afghanistan and Argentina make a move with those nice shiney new amphibious warfare ships they are buying of France.
Iran is not like Iraq, it has a capable military, OK it is no match against the top US stuff but I dont fancy the chances of an Iraq style sucess if the US go in this time, especially not if Iran manage to get a working nuclear weapon or two soon. S-300 surface to air missiles will make Isreal very reluctant to launch a raid as they did on Iraq.

"There has been no violence related to this incident and we trust this will be resolved through peaceful diplomacy between the governments of Iraq and Iran," he said.
Another American official, Colonel Peter Newell, said: "What happens is, periodically, about every three or four months, the oil ministry guys from Iraq will go... to fix something or do some maintenance.
"They'll paint it in Iraqi colours and throw an Iraqi flag up.
"They'll hang out there for a while, until they get tired, and as soon as they go away, the Iranians come down the hill and paint it Iranian colours and raise an Iranian flag.
"It happened about three months ago and it will probably happen again."
