Just lock them both up in a room with a knife super glued to each hand and wait for the noise to subside. Then burn the evidence and call a General Election.

Oh dear poor winky, now that the true PM is upset with him, what are the odds on him going before the election.................is there even time to move somebody like Postman Al into the hot seat at no.10?

Brown really is a class act. Mandelson is the only competent politician anywhere near the cabinet. Every time there's a tough interview to be done, they wheel out Mandy because he's the only one who's got his wits about him. Every time some indefensibly stupid policy needs defending, Mandy pops up on the Today programme and puts on one hell of a show. (Plan B is get Harperson on air where she'll drop a crass stupidity bomb that incapacitates the interviewer.) The rest of them get pulped. Mandy is Labour's one hope of at least losing the election gracefully. If they alienate him and cut themselves off from his political strategic thinking and ability to communicate, they have no replacement - he will leave a void. If Brown is intentionally trying to "cut Mandy down to size", he needs his head examining. Brown needs Mandy. Mandy does not need Brown. What an epic plum.

Mandy is more powerful than you can possibly imagine....

He was put into the cabinet to ensure that Brown's government and in fact the entire country's economic and political system, didn't totally collapse under Winky's leadership. He will have absolutely no quarms at all about destorying Brown and therefore bringing forward the election. He will then side himself carefully with the Tories.

Remember the people who put Mandy in the cabinet are nothing to do with the Labour Party. They are the people who really run the world and Brown has now served his purpose. He will be disposed of sooner or later. Even if he does make it to March, if he has pissed off the Dark Lord he is dead meat.

Sorry, Mums nicked me helmet to use to wrap the turkey... (gibber)

Excellent post; can't agree more.

Mandelson is the only weapon of mass political destruction available to Brown. And the only man who I truly respect and fear within government right now.

Mandy will always look after number one first; Brown is making another catastrophic error if this story is indeed true.

Just when you think he can't do anything more idiotic.....Winky Strikes!!

"It's not Labours fault - they were merely continuing policies which Thatcher started 25 years ago ... and we know Cameron would have done exactly the same thing, erm, even though he's not actually been in power so we don't know what he would have done"
Interesting to note, that even the SpinMeister is aware of the corporate damage which his Leader's policies are causing:
"In recent weeks Lord Mandelson is known to have been upset that Mr Brown has continued to attack bankers for their bonus payments. The Business Secretary understands that the City will have a vital role to play in Britain’s recovery, but he was overruled and Alistair Darling, the Chancellor, brought in a new super tax for bonuses of more than £25,000."
