This story genuinely surprised me:

Is cocaine use that widespread now that it has infiltrated every single bank note? What a frightening statistic!

The Forensic Science Service is a fully government owned company, it's in their interest to scaremonger.

They were saying very similar things 20 years ago, with similar outrage. All down to yuppies then, of course.

Maybe it's all these new notes the government is having printed being used to pay off national debt by dealing with drug cartels.

From the comments -

"The contamination probably explains why this country is so 'hyper'.
A former colleague started using this stuff and ended up losing job, marriage, children, house, car and mates.
He finally went doolally tap and now sits in a bedroom with his TV shrouded in foil to prevent 'THEM' from spying on him. A salutary lesson!"

A new variation on the tin foil hat?

I worked for a bank ten years ago (ish) and they were saying the exact same thing then, my mum worked in a bank nearly 20 years ago and the same was true then!

Which is why they have always told tellers not to lick their fingers (money is dirty anyway without coke on it!) and to wash their hands regularly!

An easier way to shock would be check each note for fecal matter..

That would stop the drug users sticking notes up their noses over night..

Works with a £5 note just as well as a £20.
