It's just been stated on The Politics Show that HIV infected immigrants into this country are costing the NHS £3,000,000 a year.

Might it be an idea to screen them first before allowing entry?

That would mean having some sort of organised boarder control, which we know is completely against the interest of this Labour Government, as was detailed in that document released by that former Labour MP.

You know the one...where it said Labour was relaxing boarder controls and letting immigrants flood into the country on purpose in order to boost their core vote.

Amazing how little noise the media made over that document.

To get a Residents Visa in the UAE - you are screened for HIV and TB amongst other things.

If you're found positive, the plod will turn up at your place of work, take you to the airport and stick you on the first plane home.

No doubt that's against some kind of EU 'Uman rights directive' over here. Pathetic really.

Luke.

Typically compassionate then.

£3,000,000? Is that all? I cost the NHS nearly a million quid on my own a year ago.

That's absolutely naff all, though I suppose it's a good headline for winding up people with overactive outrage glands.

At the last assessment, the rate of AIDS amongst asylum seekers was lower than the national average.

Did they also care to balance the statement by saying how much NI these immigrants pay?

Doesn't mean we should be letting more people with the disease in though, does it.

No, it isn't very PC.

HIV victims have a right to be included in the British inclusive community, regardless of cost, otherwise it will not be diverse enough.

hehe

And in answer to the question, given the fact my Dad couldn't get proper cancer treatment, they should all fook off.

Nutcase. British HIV victims deserve treatment, everyone else who hasn't paid into the system should be excluded. The country is broke, we can't look after everyone in the world.

Charity begins at home.

How did your father not get proper care from the NHS? Cancer is one area that they generally throw money at.

I'm sure you heard wrong or they stated it wrong. 3 million is fk all.

Each HIV-positive patient costs the NHS ~15 grand a year minimum.

Have to agree, while a non-life threatening problem is often delt with terribly, cancer treatment is usually swift and top notch - I can vouch for that in the way they looked after my Mother when she was diagnosed with early breast cancer - good - and the way my Grandmotehr was treated for a dodgy hip - crap.

I'd doubt that Soovy was daft enough to think that.

I suspect that there are a fair few individuals who come to the UK specifically because they know they can get free treatment on the NHS rather than paying for it back home / suffering untreated.

Wild generalisation it may be but the logic is there - people literally die trying to get here to take advantage of the benefits / asylum system so if you have a generally fatal disease then go somewhere where you get treated for free. Sure, being in one of the asylum hostels can't be much fun but at least the guards aren't actively trying to beat/rape/kill you.

There was an article on people trafficking i read ages ago in a sunday broadsheet where they planted a reporter in southern spain (usual exit point for some african nations) and said get back home illegally - it was followed up with a tv show too i think - and i think he got to calais before giving up as he genuinely feared for his life at that point. People he met along the way all wanted to get to UK because it was the best, I recall one guy saying France would do but Britain was his aim because he'd heard he would be better treated.
