Gordon Brown will be called to give evidence to the Iraq Inquiry before the General Election according to news just now.
The prime minister had been due to appear before Sir John Chilcot's inquiry after the election - due by June at the latest.
I really hope this is true. The prime minister had been due to appear before Sir John Chilcot's inquiry after the election - due by June at the latest.
I've been waiting to hear this ever since Hain said on QT that "If asked to appear, Brown DEFINATELY would"
This could make things very interesting!!! I hope it's on TV. It could be a ratings hit

Bet he wishes he could have got on before Blair now, as the squirmy way Straw performed in the news bites today, he was pushing the fall out on to Blair. Did you see Straw wish he could answer in private! I can't see Blair blame Brown, so perhaps appearing after Blair, he hopes he can push all the blame on Blair and put distance between him and Iraq by stuffing Blair.
From the footage I have caught, both 'live' and on news etc they all seem to be appearing without notes?
How on earth can these guys remember everything including diary dates without notes?
Had Straw on the web in teh background at my desk at one point today whilst doing something mundane and he certainly seemed to be 'chatting' rather than reading notes?

According to 'this week' on bbc 1 earlier, McBroon actually requested himself to move the date forward. Interesting.
Indeed. I predict that Brown will point the finger squarely at Blair, hoping that this will win him some votes, while at the same time causing grief to his arch nemesis. However, as I recall, the silence from Brown at the time was deafening! As such, I hope the inquiry nails both of them! 5unny said:

Because he is still in power then. Once he is a failed ex prime minister and there's a new tory government in charge, he will be that much easier to heap blame on, and the kind of unfortunate accident that befell David Kelly is that much less likely to happen to those who unearth his dirty secrets.I'm sorry I can't really share in the general enthusiasm for this. It will be good to see Winky squirm, but they're still running the show and it won't change a thing.
