Times said:
A LABOUR MP pretended his daughter was his landlord so he could claim almost £13,000 in expenses from the Commons for “renting” a flat that he himself owned.

David Chaytor, MP for Bury North, drew up a tenancy agreement with his daughter but disguised their relationship by giving her middle name as her surname.

Land Registry records show that Chaytor and his wife were the real owners of the property and there was no reason to claim his rent from the Commons. The mortgage had been paid off.

The disclosure suggests that the fraud allegations against Chaytor may be more serious than previously thought.
Understatement!

On the assumption this is all true, then he might find himself in a little trouble. Just how many homes does this guy own?

I love the way his lawyer is apparently trying to claim "parliamentary privilege." These s really do think they're above the law.rolleyes

They obviously are above the law, I see no porridge on the menu (as Tonker alludes to).

FOUR flipped homes.

No stamp duty and mortgages paid.

That's just the legal bit!

You'd do well if you could find a SINGLE Labour MP who actually stood by his/her socialist principles. Mainly because socialism sucks.

However, this man HAS to go to jail for fraud here, if not, I would like to see rioting in the streets.

Didn't they recently changed the law to add a specific offence of MP expense fiddling and reduced the max prison term from 5 years to 1 year? (5 years being the max penalty for common or garden fraud)

Should have shredded all his expense forms so that no-one could see them (a la Billy Liar) because, of course no organisation of any sort would hold copies or other receipts in any office or filing systems of expenses paid out, would they?

Just as I'm sure there's no obligation for companies and businesses to do so because the 'Revenue' aren't interested in 'petty' stuff like that are they? rolleyes

the fact that the guy is still in government should tell you all you need to know, nothing is going to happen to this bloke.....also you cant very well fire someone for fiddling expenses when you been fiddling expenses yourself...
