I was watching the news on Friday and it said that the recession will end on Tuesday.

Now Tuesday has come, I feel a small weight has been lifted off my shoulders and I can now go and spend all the hard earned I had saving for the hard times. rolleyes

How do you chaps feel to know that the recession is over today?
That really is what was said on the News this morning, the recession is finished today. How can it possibly be one specific day? have I missed something? I thought it would have been a gradual thing.

Yes, Winky's fixed it and saved the world yet again.

Election coming up isn't there? Was this reported by the BBC perchance?

It may be my misundertanding of the issue but surely it just means that we have stopped declining, we are still at the bottom of a dip that will take a long time to climb out of.

Growth of +0.1% in the last three months of last year in the initial report, this has since been revised down by 0.1% or more in six of the last twelve months so the chances are 50:50 at best that it will stay a positive growth after the updated results in February and March.

The key benefit of emerging from recession is the end of the "upshares downshares" slot on Radio 4 on the drive home, along with its pathetic Steve-Wright-esque "theme music sent in my the listeners often featuring instruments made out of vegetables and mung beans".

My point was, how can they possibly say "Tuesday"? as in one day, i.e. we were in a recession on Monday, everyone stting bricks, Wednesday, we're out, everything is fine and we are all saved.

Personally I think the whole lot has been a big crock of st but never mind.

I'm feeling concerned. It's a bother that the scrappage deals, vat, fuel prices, quantative easing etc have stopped being subsidised or will be. I worry that a perfect storm has been created that yet has to come ripping through.
Realistically there is nothing I can do but I can see there are alot of big debts still waiting to be paid.

How does that work - 2 qtrs of negative growth = recession
1 qtr of 0.1% growth = no recession and high fives to the government

Broon economics by the sound of it....

Consumers may have been making purchases in December to avoid the VAT increase in January. This may have somewhat increased the figures for the last Qtr.

As has been said, a recession needs to be two quarters of negative growth. We cannot now return to recession before the next election.

Labour are the party that brought us out of the recession.

I'd wager that they were leant on VERY hard to announce the "Growth of +0.1%", so that Winky can now say we're out of recession.
Wonder what the real situation is......

I actually think that by reporting this 0.1% rise, Labour will LOSE more support.

Why?

Because the core labour voter, the working class man and woman, made unemployed during the recession, feeling the pinch and still not being able to find work are likely to be highly peeved by Winky McFeckwit having a jolly on TV claiming he has saved the world again as working class man and woman have to eat a dinner of cold beans... again !! hehe

Winky has been driving the car, and has emptied it of fuel. Now he's on the hard shoulder, using the starter motor to move the car forward while in gear.

The 'recession' might technically be over, but the next wave is on it's way.

I'll give you the word for 2010. Inflation.
