Was just thinking this after watching the news regarding the (so-called) end of the recession. I've been very fortunate that the recession has not affected me at all, in fact there have been many areas where i'm better off, which i do appreciate btw!

Mines been neutral, can you add that? I haven't been affected so much (a couple hours overtime less) but work is still good and cost of living is 'acceptable' given the times (except for fuel though, thieving s - but that never changes)

You're missing a response!

The recession has had no impact on me. Neither negative nor positive. Just neutral.

Negative for me. Only very slightly, though.

Neutral.

House price supposedly went down then back up, but I haven't moved, so it's made no difference.

I lost a lot on my pension in 2008, but gained most of it back in 2009.

My income went down a bit, but I'm not exactly close to qualifying for benefits.

My practice has been busier than at any time since the dotcom boom.

Negative for me.

Have had to move away from home Monday-Friday for work as the local contracts dried up.

Since January last year I've spent more time in travelodges than I have at home frown

Pension, house price down.

Job market poor which means I'm stuck where I am.

Big tax rises on they way.

So it's a negative for me.

In the words of the late Karen (not for me thanks, I ate last year) Carpenter - we've only just begun.

Someone has to pay back 200 billion fecking pounds at some point.

Thanks Labour, 13 more years, woop de doop.

It's worth it though because now we are all equally in the st so society is much fairer.

Boo hiss to those posh boys etc.

It's not fair, it's not fair.

That £200B was just the extra for this year - someone has to pay back in total a hell of a lot more - £800B IIRC?

Lost job but walked into another straight away with a nice payout, and bought a house I couldn't have afforded a few years earlier in a nicer area than I was in, so all in all pretty good so far.

Yes I do know how lucky I've been and no I don't take it for granted. smile

She also said Rainy Days and Mondays always get me down ..

i suppose it's got marginally worse, mainly because of other people .. Crime: had to call the police twice in the last 6 months, never had to in the previous 5 years .. Finances: left last job in 2007 so timed it right, paid off debts and living quite frugally but not uncomfortably, so neutral or better .. Stress: slightly worse but only because commuting is cr8p and beer is expensive.

Negative but only in the turnover of my company has fallen as I'm only working 20 hrs a week at the moment due to the MoD budget cuts. In terms of my actual life, I'm still paying myself the same amount, just not increasing the capital/safety net funds in the company.

Contract ends on 26th March so it'll be interesting to see whether it is extended again (likely) and whether they can afford more time from me (unlikely). Then there'll be another interesting time after the election, with whatever policy/budget changes come in...

Its been positive for me, has made me re-evaluate certain aspects of my life, not all financial though. 2009 was a tough year, fear of losing job etc.. (never happened thankfully). But I feel I have begun 2010 a wiser man and hope to change some things significantly this year smile

Oh and by the way, I don't think the recession will really be over for a long time, its just bottomed out. Its a long way back for the world from where we were a couple of years ago.

positive....

redundancy... big payout (not that big)...
doss for 4 months, getting to know people I have not seen for ages due to job workload.
get a job and work with fashion girls in Buberry.
get another, job on 4x the salary of that one back in a bank.
OH moves in...

About to be given new contract or permanent role....
About to start a lot of building work on the flat...

Savings are now at 10x the amount there were in Sept 2008 (the day I was escorted out of HSBC).

Its been a rollercoaster, but by hell I managed to grab the bull by the horns and gave it a damn good riding that it squealed like a piggy... my luck should run out soon!!

Negative, lost my job thanks to my old boss relenting under the pressure of the parent company and relocating the company to be under the roof of our sister company in yorkshire. Worst still, they tried running our business before and ran it into the ground. So history isn't on their side. Plus he seems to have forgotten to mention that I was a model employee so the people in yorkshire are now looking for a uk sales manager based from home, which I could basically do with my eyes closed but they made me redundant and are looking elsewhere.

I did send them a business case to set me up as a distributor selling the products to all my old customers and other new ones, but they're not willing to do that just yet as they haven't got a clue what they're doing.

Have gone for loads of other jobs and keep going up against older people with more experience. Very frustrating!
