From the "wow I didn't know birds could do that at all" file, the Telegraph reports that the Kakapo that attempted to mate with Mark Carwardine of "last chance to see" fame is now the "official spokesbird" of New Zealand!

And here appears to be a video of their Prime Minister actually giving him the title, totally bizarre but hilarious and very NZ from what else I've seen of them

Superb...so nice to see a country that doesn't take themselves too seriously (and yet has a rather keen understanding of what will/won't work in the modern world...).



Shame their traffic-cops are almost as bad as the Aussies for pointless hidden speed-traps on empty straight roads in the middle of nowhere
