Been on local news now he has been arrested it has hit national news
Surely with no facts, the police would have to let him go?
BBC presenter Ray Gosling has been arrested today after revealing he smothered a former lover who was suffering from Aids.
Former Northamptonshire Grammar School pupil Gosling, 70, was detained by police after he told viewers of BBC East Midlands' Inside Out programme that he smothered the unnamed partner as he lay in hospital suffering from Aids.
A police spokeswoman said: "Nottinghamshire Police has this morning (Wednesday) arrested a 70-year-old Nottingham man on suspicion of murder following comments on the BBC's Inside Out programme on Monday evening."
During the programme, Gosling said he smothered his partner as he was "in terrible, terrible pain".
Strolling through a graveyard for a segment of the 30-minute show about death, he broke down as he recalled the day he took his lover's life.
Gosling told viewers: "Maybe this is the time to share a secret that I have kept for quite a long time. I killed someone once. He was a young chap, he'd been my lover and he got Aids.
"In a hospital one hot afternoon, the doctor said 'There's nothing we can do', and he was in terrible, terrible pain. I said to the doctor 'Leave me just for a bit' and he went away. I picked up the pillow and smothered him until he was dead. The doctor came back and I said 'He's gone'. Nothing more was ever said."
Gosling, a freelance presenter of hundreds of radio and TV documentaries, said he had no regrets about his actions, adding: "When you love someone, it is difficult to see them suffer."
Mr Gosling later said he was not "making a cause" of assisted dying but said there was a case for changing the law.
Speaking on the BBC Radio 4 Today programme, he said: "Sometimes doctors do it on their own. Sometimes people do it on their own. And if it happens to a lover or friend of yours, a husband, a wife, and I hope it doesn't, but when it does sometimes you have to do brave things and you have to say - to use Nottingham language - bugger the law."

Interesting case.
He said last night that he would never help the Police with their enquiries into this - reveal who etc. From the sound of his interview last night, the Dr left him alone and knew what had happened whilst they were alone so covered it up. Will be very hard for the Police to prove.
I'm wondering why he felt the need to confess.
I do think that the Police are wasting time in this to make a point
But then how could they be seen to do nothing over it?

Just invite him to the local cop shop with his solicitor to make a statement.
Clearly not enough evidence to secure a conviction unless Ray cracks and sings like the proverbial canary.
Personally I'd have kept well schtum - why attract the interest of the Plod if you don't need to. They can be unreasonable cocks when they want to.
I reckon he'll confess and do time for this.

The guy has mental health issues - which he freely admits. In his day he was a bit of a ground breaking documentary maker and TV presenter. But that was over 30 years ago and his life has been a chaotic mess ever since - mostly down to alcohol abuse.
I bet HE doesn't even know why he made that admission on TV on Monday.

Hmmmm... We have a system where it is illegal to kill anybody.
We have found it impossible to define in law where it is acceptable to kill someone. We all know that there are circumstances where murder is best. We just do not know how to define it in law.
It seems that Ray committed an acceptable murder. Moreover, the system dealt with it corectly. In other words, people knew that he killed someone, and they kept quiet. The system worked.
Ray isn't happy with a system that works, and now he faces a long time in jail. He should have kept quiet.

My thoughts entirely. They did a TV documentary on him a few years ago. He's a sad, bankrupt, drunk, attention seeker who never really got used to being off the telly and radio. I saw his appearance on BBC Breakfast on monday. Personally I don't believe a word of it...I bet HE doesn't even know why he made that admission on TV on Monday.

He admitted murder.
He should be arrested.
It's then up to the CPS to decide what to do.
No, the CPS have a duty too. I would say it's upto a judge and more importantly a jury.He should be arrested.
It's then up to the CPS to decide what to do.
However, as this was reported on Fox News in the USA last night I would think the pressure to prosecute would increase dramatically, as the eyes of the world are now upon them.

All I know is I'm not suprised the police have reacted, they really had no choice, he admitted murder on air. I accept there is a place for a mercy killing but keep it quiet don't announce it on national tv it is still illegel!
