Thatcher - what was she like before she was elected?
Discussion
I am very worried about our economy. We desperately need change at the top and I can't help but think that we need another Thatcheresque character in charge to make the tough decisions needed to guide us back on course. Of course I know her reputation as being the iron lady, fighting unions etc but I have no real idea of what she was like before she was elected.
I ask as I cannot see CMD making the changes needed to keep this place afloat. Perhaps he will turn out to be stronger than he is putting on so he is more likely to be elected. May be he doesn't have it in him. Did Thatcher give off similar signals before she was elected or was she always strong and outspoken?

An inspirational woman. A politician of her kind I doubt we will ever see again.

Always a strong character, she basically told it like it is. Thats a trait that is not acceptable in this country any more, people in positions of power now tend to be yes men. Other than Osbourne and Cameroon,( leaving aside redwood and clarke), I couldnt name a single tory minister, they are just anonymous.

I always thought Hague would have been a good PM. It's a shame he was wasted by being the tory leader too young and straight after Labour came to power.

But then, if we are lucky he might do it again...

head spin-doctor decided it would be a good idea to put a cap on it. That is what killed it for him.I think he will return.

She was certainly less radical than she became in power and didn't have the 'iron lady' image at that point.
Which is something well worth bearing in mind with the incessant criticism of CMD, who has had no opportunity as yet to prove himself one way or the other.
This was the reason I started the thread. I wondered if perhaps she came cross as soft when before she won the election.Which is something well worth bearing in mind with the incessant criticism of CMD, who has had no opportunity as yet to prove himself one way or the other.
