I'm not looking for rants or opinions here, but some justifiable, fact-based reasons why I shouldn't vote Labour at the election. I know I shouldn't be voting Labour, but why do I feel this way?

Wide-spread implementation of CRB checks for people coming into contact with children (in the metaphorical, not literal sense wink )...
Invasive powers given to police officers in the name of anti-terrorism (such as interference in photographers' legitimate activities)...
The deference shown to the media when people in charge are accused of things that are ultimately unimportant...
Section-59-type legislation that allows a police officer to convict a motorist on the spot based on a subjective decision...
Increased beaurocracy for the police coupled with a reduction in manpower on the beat and on the roads...
The erosion of personal responsibility thanks to an over-reliance on health and safety beaurocracy...
Lack of respect for Gordon Brown due to his public mannerisms and persona...
Taxes on motorists not being used for the transport infrastructure (including public transport)...

Can all or any of these things be blamed on this Labour government?

I don't have a clearly credible alternative to choose at the moment but I still want some facts to support my opinion that Labour has been bad for my beloved Britain.

What I really want is an alternative party that will stand up for common sense, personal responsibility, and personal freedom, and which will also stand up to the media.

Am I asking too much? Is there an alternative?

Nope, lack of respect due to him being the worst, most disastrous, Chancellor and PM in British history. And he had some stiff competition there.

laugh I figured I'd stir up some emotion.

Can we really blame Labour/Brown for the economy and the debt with which we're stuck? Did they have an alternative solution to the financial crisis? Or are we blaming them for the lack of regulation and control that got us into the crisis in the first place?

I don't have TV so I don't see much of the politicians' characters or analysis of the state of the nation. Most of what little I know I get from the BBC news website and Pistonheads and I realise how biased those sources are (but at least they kinda balance wink ). This is why I'm looking for facts about Labour's term in office. I'd settle for pointers to a source for unbiased information if that's going to be easier. smile

How about the fact that Labour didn't save money during the golden years using the stable economy they inherited. They p!ssed it up the wall on expanding the public sector.

When we hit recession, we didn't have any buffers in terms of cash in the bank - we were already deep in debt (just like Greece!)

Guess what job, primarily involving children, doesn't require a CRB check. You'll be amazed. Have a guess.

For wrapping up horrid nasty bitter socialist unworkable ideals in a posh suite named Tony and doing the same as every single Labour government has ever done when it is in power lead the country to financial ruin and leave the mess for the public and Torys to sort out

Just for added measure undo any old ways/methods even if they worked destroy anything that has a taint of Empire about it (including the country i.e immigration) and try their dammed best to make themselves feel better about their hand wringing liberal upper middle-class guilt whilst coining it in

If you work in the public sector that's a good argument for voting Labour. Public sector is far safer under Labour than it would be under the Conservatives.

But not under the IMF, which it would be if Labour continue.
