I was talking to my colleague yesterday about the EU and Berlusconi. I made some remark about how the EU press see him as a joke, but the woman told me that at least he looks after the Italians first, and EU encroachment has come to a virtual standstill. I think that perhaps this is why the pro-EU/left leaning press try to make out he's some kind of joke. The Italians don't seem to think so - he is popular due to less immigration and standing up to the EU. So I have been told by people who know these things a lot better than me....
