So our glorious leader has announce that the country will be adopting the Euro.

Seems a good reason to get rid of Labour.

I don't like the idea of the Euro, especially as there is a lot of crap to go with the stable countries.

What are others thoughts on this?

I'd just like to point out that I am in no way opposed to a single european currency or to make things really easy a single global currency.

As long as it's sterling.

Won't adopting the Euro be tantamount to treason? Isn't that still punishable by death? Please say it is!

Just checked and the answer is yes. There are no more crimes which are punishable by death.

If we were in the Euro, we'd be like Greece now.

History shows fixing exchange rates doesn't ever work - the Gold Standard fell apart as Countries growth rates diverged, the ERM recession.... A single economic policy with different Goverments taxing at different rates, borrowing at different rates, different Countries having different values, with different languages, different labour markets.... It's a joke.

Ditch all the seperate Governments, adopt a common language and one set of laws, taxes, and then bingo, it might work a little bit like North America although there, many towns die out and become deserted as a single currency struggles to accomodate the wealthy and poorer areas. $5000 home in Detroit anyone....

Despite the very relevant objections, the truth is that all Europe is now under governance by those united in a common cause.
Whatever their respective constituencies might wish.
What interests me is how this has come to pass.
In Nations supposedly democratic.

Am I the only one that read the linked article?

"Britain will be part of the euro one day but not any time soon, Business Secretary Peter Mandelson said on Friday."

It's none story - knickers in a twist over nothing.

Well he was hardly going to say not long after the next election.

Let's be honest he knows more of what Labour are going to do than any other person.

It's a typical politico statement which seemingly offers a view, but in reality doesn't. It appeases both the pro and anti Euro groups. The Pros think, good we have long term plans to join, the Antis think he's stalling the Pros.
