Unfortunately that saying "Sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic" almost applies here.

Those that are chronically dimwitted think that the government and scientists have magical machines that can see into the future, thus believe everything that the magical technology reports back.

At this point, it is a religion in their minds, therefore nobody is allowed to say anything against it.

Think about it - how many people still worship an imaginary universe-making being who lives in the clouds - compared to that, any global warming stories are positively plausible...
