English Defence League, marching in Bolton this Saturday

Had never heard of them so had a quick google, formed last year and had a few marches in Leeds/Stoke etc, all turned a bit ugly as anti-fascist groups and asian youths turn up too. So warning to anyone local, unless participating, avoid the area.

Wikepdia et al seem to show them as a particularly nasty bunch, the more hardcore underbelly of the BNP (who deny it officially but designed the EDL's website...hmmmm) and with strong ties to Football hooligan gangs. Anyone know any more?

Hold on, there was something going on in the City Centre last year, loads and loads of riot police/vans/helicipters buzzing overhead.

Didn't seem to get very violent, but have seen a few punch-ups & ambulances on that day.

Edit - End of October (was Saturday) last year - must have been them then.

i was walking through nottingham a few months ago when they marched there, the lads that partisipate in these marches are skinheads and football hooligans who havent got two brain cells between the lot of them

EDL = mainly football hooligans and thugs

UAF = deluded facists who assault anyone who does not agree with them

Others = A few extremist muslim kids who have probably never been near a mosque, a few thugs joining in on the march with the EDL as they want a punchup



So basically the police should leave both sides to batter eachother, will do the gene pool a world of good with a few from both sides meeting their demise Maybe even lend them a stadium to have the fight and get ITV to film it with a phone vote for your favourite nutter who is awarded a chainsaw or hedgestrimmer

Can I just make the point of saying not all ex-football hooligans are racist. Many firms had black lads with them who where accepted into the group even in the 80s.

As for the EDL, well they are just C18 but better dressed.

Folks should remember that UAF = Unite Against Fascism. Unite, as in the super-union. This amounts to the government's own (arms length) boot boys giving another group a good kicking.
