From what I read on here the world is due to end any second now, we are about to fall in to a pit of debt, joblessness (apart from those in the public sector) and speed cameras.

So, if we were to form our own political party what would be our plans to fix the place? How would you lower the debt, restore confidence and a degree of 'good times' to the country.

It will be good if we could mostly serious as there are lot of people with strong views on what we shouldn't be doing, so it will be good to hear what we should be doing!

Also, which PHer would you have in which position in the cabinet?

Strong curbs on immigration Australia style. What are you bringing to the party? Do we have a shortage of those skills? If not, no thanks. Also a requirement to prove that you are fit and healthy and will contribute to UK plc not take from it. If we have a shortage of the required skills start investing in education in those areas.

Make those on benefits who are able to work actually work for their benefits. Community projects, litter picking, grafiti cleaning. Lots of jobs need doing but nobody actually seems to be doing them.

Invest in infrastructure. How many builders, plumbers, plasterers etc are on benefits due to the decline in the housing market. Instead of paying benefits pay them to build stuff. Hospitals, Prisons, Schools, Roads.

Fill the prisons we've built with scrotes. Get them off the street.

Leave the EU (stay in EFTA). Pay benefits in vouchers which are exchangeable for essentials only... not cigarettes, tv, etc. Someone else can explain what to do with speed limits...

That plus:
Cut non-jobs (DVLA, quangos, Harriet Harman, middle-management in NHS I'm looking at you)

Nationalise telecom infrastructure, rail network, local buses (inter-city to stay private), utilities. Let the "new" BT be the only operator for land lines, but internet access be re-sold via the BT network [upgraded to be fully fiber] (or put in separately and privately ala VM).
Nationalise RM, but only for letter deliveries - parcels to be run entirely privately.

Ring fence much of the tax money
- "road tax" is spent entirely on roads and 25% of it goes towards funding public transport
- Fuel duty is entirely spent on research into alternate fuels
- other energy duties spent on other alternative energy research

Make any duty apply AFTER VAT, so that you do not pay a tax on tax

Make both houses of parliament 100% elected, make it so that government ministers are all from "the lower house", but anyone working within their department is from the other house. Have only 1 MP (lower house) per county, but say 2 or 3 for the "upper house".

Get rid of devolution, give the Scots, the Welsh and NI a the vote to either be 100% independent, or be part of the Union.

Re-work the speed limits, remove traffic calming measures. Ensure that all junctions are re-engineering to be the best possible.

Remove council tax, instead increase income tax and allocate councils a budget based on the number of residents and the area

Have a single, well thought out education system for England, Wales, NI and Scotland - make exams be sufficiently testing, give teachers and heads more power, remove PC bullst. If a parent wishes to send their child private then the government will contribute the same amount as they would have spent had the person been in state education.

Remove government funding for useless university degrees (such as hairdressing)

Make public services be run more akin to private companies, but also ensure that under-performing staff (at any level) can be fired without compensation.

Make any statement given by politicians in their official capacity be "under oath", prosecute lairs for perjury.

Legalise drugs, but have much stricter penalties if you happen to do something while under the influence - ie if you kill someone while drunk then you are charged with manslaughter with alcohol being an aggregating factor - adding a mandatory 50% to the sentence length.

Stop being a net contributor to the EU, stop paying money for carbon trading
Pull out of any treaties that are not beneficial to UK

Clean up the police force, and their blatant abuse of S59.

All "fines" have to go though the legal system, none of this admit it and you don't need to go to court BS you get with points etc.

Benefits system is voucher based if you have been unemployed for more than 12 months, council shared housing provided. Vouchers can only be used on normal clothes, and normal food. A free bus pass provided.

I got plenty more, but that will do for now.
The one thing I'm on the fence is banning organised religion - it is just some fake BS afterall.

I really like this idea, I could see a black market for the vouchers springing up quite quickly, but if they haven't got any money for food, tough.

Lots of good stuff coming at the moment.

I'd ban the use of average speed cameras
Force councils and government bodies to return money they don't need to spend and end up wasting on stupid schemes so they get the same amount of funding the following year.
I'd like to see the death penalty come back for clear cut cases of murder etc (Thinking the likes of Shipman, Fred West)
Have fixed election dates and don't allow ruling parties to call them when it suits them.
Introduce tax incentives for manufacturing, engineering and industry based courses at uni and start ups in those fields. Remove funding for pointless degrees.

1) As per the tax thread, 20% fixed rate with threshold for lower earners.

2) Making all public services such as Ambulance, Hospital, Fire, Police, Transportation and Utility services essential emergency services and illegal for them to strike. That will remove the need of Union meddling and threatening strike action.

3) Reduce unemployment numbers and welfare budget by stopping all benefits to anyone who refuses 2 jobs.

4) Reduce government wage packet by streamlining the civil service by:-

a) Abolishing departments such as the Department for Children, Schools and Families, local government immediately responsible for local schools will take over this role, they will be financed direct from the Treasury.
b) The Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform will be amalgamated with the Department for Innovation, Universities and skills. Since the latter will drive the former. The department for UK Trade & Investment will also come under this area.
c) Law introduced basically worded as "Do so at your own risk" which will remove the need for The Health & Safety Executive. This will cover private matters for business matters the regulations will be simply fixed (no meddling) and handled by the above Amalgamated Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform.
d) The Department for International Development will be merged with the Foreign Office.

5) Immigration, fast track removal of illegal immigrants, immigrants entering the UK must have a proven offer of work or be self supporting. No immigrant is allowed to claim any benefit or housing unless they have been made redundant (not fired or resigned) from a job after no less than 2 years.

6) Europe, pulling out of Europe could damage trade however a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty will be held. Public opinion will decide the outcome as to not accepting the Treaty and removing Brussels rule over UK government matters. We would not pull out of Europe fully but since the rest of Europe is still struggling due to Euro-zone issues and the global recession we would propose a new European Trade Alliance maintaining trade agreements and flow of goods between the Alliance members.

7) Removal of inheritance tax and tax breaks for UK businesses to stimulate growth and tempt them back into the UK rather than using off shore tax havens.

8) Removal of the largely centralised (London based) government and reduction in number of MPs. MPs would be reduced in number, one MP per county and 4 (North/South/East/West) in designated large cities. Each of these MPs will be responsible for their constituency and must be resident in that constituency and have their offices in their constituency. Needing to only be in Parliament for discussions and voting. They would in turn run the local government looking after those areas for which local government have been empowered such as schools, business and welfare. So there will be 92 county MPs and with London, Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Glasgow, Liverpool have 4 MPs each to total number would be 120 members of the House of Commons.

9) Transparent MP earnings, higher salary but the only expenses allowed to be claimed are travel to and from London. No Minister or Prime Minister allowed to hold a directorship outside their current government nor to hold a directorship in a company directly associated with their previous government ministry work when leaving office for a minimum 2 years.

10) Road tax to fund road repairs, fuel tax rate removed and replaced by standard VAT rate only. Therefore a litre of fuel currently costing 109.9p of which 50.35p is fuel tax and 14.33p (at 15%) will now cost only 59.54p per litre (£2.70 a gallon).

11) Removal of all speed cameras except for those directly outside schools and hospitals.

Edited for more.

don't know if its been said, but "road tax" ontop of fuel, the more fuel you burn, the more you pay.

3rd party insurance ontop of fuel. chip in the driving liscence, scanned when fuel is bought, insured for 28 days, 3rd party, would pretty much eliminate uninsured drivers.
