Conservative government would impose a carbon tax on electricity generation, to create a clear incentive for long-term investment in renewable energies, the party said on Friday.

Unveiling its energy strategy, the Conservative party said it would reform an existing Climate Change Levy (CCL), imposing a levy instead on the carbon content of power production.

Utilities would only have to pay the levy if the European carbon price fell below the level of the levy, which would thereby act as a floor price for carbon emissions in Britain.

That was intended to combat volatile prices in the European Union emissions trading scheme, which some companies say has been a brake on low-carbon investment.

"Ultimately the cost of achieving a diverse and resilient energy system has to be paid for by consumers," the party said in a strategy document launched by leader David Cameron.

Consocialdemocratervatives being true to their red colours.

Perhaps it's time someone reshuffled politicians into some new teams.

We need to put the left wingers together and then have an alternative, even if it is some long-shot libertarian group of angry old men.

CMD isn't an alternative, he's Blair with a Blue Tie. In all respects.

Is there any party we can vote for that has a sensible attitude to CO2?

ie. that MMGW is something not yet (and probably never will be) proven and therefore can not be used as an excuse to raise government spending money.
(Sorry, wrong wording....forgot that its climate change now.... MMGW = MMCC)

How about instead of taxing CO2 more, they instead give subsidies and part fund new nuclear stations frown

I've already told Dave and the local Tory representative that they have lost my vote because of this rubbish so there's little point in repeating it, but I really do wonder if they want to win the next election or not.

Carbon taxes and trading = massive racket.

It's all a big wealth transfer away from working people.

Not that much different, I suspect, to 5 years of Cameron's 'Green' LabCons - let's not kid ourselves, they all have their grubby little fingers in the carbon tax/MMGW pie, and they are determined that we fund it for them.

Wasted vote or not, UKIP it is-in lieu of something better and more honest.

Yep, only one difference between them and the 2 main parties in your statement. Plus the added advantage of UKIP doing away with the carbon tax bks!

If all the people I have seen say 'it's a wasted vote' actually voted for them they'd win by a landslide...

A similar thing has been going on for ages with regard to the carbon levy. They used to pay, for example, 1.5p per kW/h for electricity from coal fired power stations right up to around 7-8p/kW/h for Wind and other renewable sources. Its simply an incentive to generate electricity using cleaner or recyclable methods...

Here's an idea, rather than putting all these taxes in place to reduce our emissions, why not just stop mass immigration and deport the illegal feckers already here?

That should help shouldn't it?

Apparently:
The BNP firmly rejects the “climate change” dogma while being fully conscious of the urgent need to combat all real pollutants in the environment. wink

But I think UKIP have it sussed really.

"Is there any party we can vote for that has a sensible attitude"
