We had a shooting range at school. It was a big no-no to point a gun at anyone whether loaded or not - you just don't know.

We had one at our school in Bucks.

The first guy must have manually cocked the hammer to fire. (Chamber empty)
Somebody must have operated the slide to bring up a round from the mag for the second guy.

I expect it was good Vodka.

(Rubber rounds are often fired just by primers (no powder)usually used for indoor practice for trigger control.) The rubber still flies out of the gun but is usually not powerfull enough to cycle the action.

What I was taught as well - many years ago. Never could understand how that police firearms instructor could ever point ANY gun at someone let alone pull the trigger.

We had a memorable safety demo on blanks - an NCO fired a blank from a 7.62 SLR fitted with a blank firing adaptor at close range at an aluminium mess tin. The mess tin got very severely messed up.

Note: British Army mess tins are very sturdy bits of kit, unlike the lightweight US ones.
