I was just looking at business rates payable on various (mediocre) properties.

Utterly utterly insane.

The UK has a tapeworm which after eating all the hosts food, has now started on the host. Disgusting parasitic rot. In fact, disgusting unsustainable parasitic rot.

You're completely spot on.
Just had my business rates bill for this coming year in this morning. It's a complete piss take.
I genuinely feel sorry for anyone that's got a cracking idea for a start up, as this is one of the myriad of piss takes that they'll be up against in making their dreams happen. Paying for st that they (and me) basically shouldn't have to.
Why? Because businesses throughout the country are seen as a cash cow - just like council tax but with disproportionately bigger numbers. What positive benefit do we get for our contribution? I've yet to find out, tbh.
It would appear that under this government, entrepreneurial spirit is something to be taken advantage of. Something that provides for the gluttony of the bloated civil sector . . . a sector that generates no net income.
What incentive does that provide for anyone that wants to better themselves and shape their own future?
Sooner Winky et al are gone the better, IMO. Their business model was wrong 13 years ago and they've not changed it since.
Tossers.

All these people that talk about the income from the public sector. Umm, so what, they are not there to provide an income. The vast majority of the departments are there to provide somesort of service (although badly in many cases no doubt). I imagine one reason they are getting more bloated is because of extra demands for certain things created in the past 10 years.

When councils do try and use methods to get money back (i.e parking) people moan.

Just throwing it out there.....

Only the private sector generate wealth, taxing them on their profits/incomes allows all the public sector 'services' to exist. But why should the private sector pay for all the government advertising, scaremongering, bureaucracy, quangos and inefficiency?

Taking it to extremes, if 100% of the population were public sector, where would the money come from to pay for them?

Who else is going to?

If we were 100% public sector and owned Tesco and BP I am sure all those extra billions would help.

You can have everything state owned and state prescribed. It's called totalitarian socialism.

The other version which is better, which we are moving away from is freedom of the individual.

Totalitarianism is the opposite of Freedom

Socialism is the opposite of Individualism.

You would think that we didn't give a fk about each other, but that is socialist propaganda. We do care for each other and form our own communities. Socialism denies this and seeks to put a regulated, specified subsititute in it's place.

It's also expensive and doesn't work.

The psychology of motivation is complex, but by killing it with soft options is one route to kill the host.

Socialism is a parasite which eats more and more until there are only bones, and then it starves and moans.

Your social ideals are meaningless without funding.

yes

That was the thinking behind the Soviet Union, East Germany, and the other Eastern Bloc countries.

For the general population it was unremittingly st. Until, finally and inevitably, they imploded.

Um, did the whole shag-wking-disaster that was the Soviet Union not happen in your universe, or are you taking comfort from the way the Chinese effortlessly did the Tommy Cooper hat thing and swapped brutal Socialist fascism for brutal commercial fascism without anyone really noticing?

Just because it happened that way in those countries doesn't mean it would happen exactly the same here

Anyway, socialism wouldnt truly work unless everyone wanted it to, so clearly it would all go to st if it was forced on us.

Ahhh - so you think Johnny Foreigner couldn't do Socialism properly, but we could?

Sod it, I'll have a go.

As long as I get an ice-pick, and Winky gets to be Trotsky...oh, no, Mandy gets to be Trotsky....um...no...the Millibands get to be the Trotsky brothers...

Right...sorted: they all get to be Trotsky, and I get at least three dozen ice-picks. Deal?

It is totally against human nature. End of.

Where you go against human nature, all sorts of awful perversions appear which are antisocial.

Social engineering doesn't work as the blueprint isn't social.

Still, the snag is that socialism and Marx's texts are an easy way into politics. Sadly, the people in charge made the error of stopping their reading there, rather than attempting to grasp human nature and the economics arising from such and working with it rather than against it.

The crudest of intellectuals are commies, if they have a bit more wit about them, you get the collectivist liberals... from then on the line gets a bit blurred and you get people who are either getting on with making a living or who would rather be left alone to get on with such.

My take on the left is that it is people who are ignorant of human nature, wishing to brand their own sense of superiority onto people like cattle. It goes against the "we're all valid members of the community" as they obviously see themselves as superior and worthy of being behind the steering wheel.

What we have isn't an administration acting on our behalf, it's a tyranny. Call Me Dave and the rest of them, they all think they are better than you and they all think they know exactly what's best for you. We are all ignorant and eutopian enough to think that a choice of tyrant is ok.

It isn't ok and I'm beginning to think that there is no real solution to this particular problem.... Then you have the "free" EU, where Brussels is aggregating people of a similar viewpoints to our own tyrants, who want to roll out their own blinkered utopia, whilst feathering their own nests.

We are the ones paying for all of it. The whole bloody thing.

Anyway, it's past my bedtime. Goodnight all.

Socialism has never worked and never will as they socialists themselves do no want to be part of it just take their cut from the others. bLIAR is one of the best examples of champagne socialism... Moron Brown is one who thinks all should suffer for socialism...

AND don't forget these Labour and Union parasites, especially Unite, who want to determine which paid up Unite members are elected as new Labour MPs and want to turn the clock back to a communist 1950!!!

Read my above moan about human nature. It doesn't work because socialism works against human nature, not (as they'd like you to think) with it. It is an incomplete construct from a social point of view and an economic one. You could pontificate and elaborate over theories and as long as they continue to ignore human nature and true diversity (not some equality st) the only way it will work is via tyrannical force.

To continue arguing for this is daft. It isn't natural and at every opportunity, people will be sneaky to indulge themselves behind the backs of the stazi.

It's the way it is.
