Both male pilots, knew both of them during my career. Minor injuries only thank goodness.

Just how close do they actually get during their displays? Always seem to be on the point of crashing but must be further away than at first glance....

Slightly off topic, and it is one of my hobby horses but did anyone else wonder why the BBC, and doubtless Sky & ITV, felt the need to send a reporter and crew to Scampton, Lincs, where we are presented not with a RAF spokesman, shot of Red Arrows on ground, or even shot of RAF personnel, just the reporter (offering no great insight or exclusivity) just the fence, the main gate, and what appears to be the important thing, the base sign, over noise of jet engines of unseen aircraft? Intercut with library footage and a grainy photo of what might be crash investigator. Couldn't that have been done in the studio. Or sent them down to quiet section of Heathrow with a prop sign.

Because it costs next to nothing to send a sat-truck anywhere, and because cameramen's footage can be played over the satellite to base and edited. Much cheaper than using fixed lines in major cities.
