All that effort and money for a jolly when a video link would have sufficed...

Given that the Guy is actually interested in supporting the Military, given that they swear allegiance and fight for his mum (proudly may I add), given the fact his son was stationed there, given that there is hardly a royal without a military background etc etc.....

I would say that its a fair call for him to be there and show his support.

fking damn site more appreciated that Winky turning up in his flak jacket.

His son was more than likely protected all the time he was there at a huge cost...he had a 10 week tatser. My only point is how much money did it take? A lot of guys would have had a hard job preparing the ground before hand and keeping him and his lugs safe.

Can I suggest you go look up Royal Military History, in fact as one poster said, just google falklands and andrew. You can start there.

I can assure you that the Military do not share your point of view in terms of the royals, next time you watch a clip of the troops in Afghanistan just take a look at the insignia on there sleeves.

You speak for all of them then? They don't have equipment they need etc etc, but we can spend money getting him there and back safely - taking troops out of the front line to make sure every footstep he takes is safe. He had all the equipment he needed whilst there - all shiney and new, probably transported around in a nice new bombproof car/helicopters/comfy planes etc. I bet the families of the dead soldiers, especially the ones killed because of lack of gear, will have had a big smile on their faces seeing lugsy out there.

This, soooo absolutely this!

I'd much rather see my (future, of course, Ma'am!) Royal boss than some fkwit who is only over there to try and bag a few Forces votes!

As for the route clearance bit...all that is done for Winky McFuknut and any other goon politician that wants a jolly and a medal! Oh, and that includes the big bunch of politicain goons that regulary go out there (in poorly fitting/worn, undeserved) uniforms and act like ill-disciplined school children, talking and poking/breaking things while Soldiers and Officers are briefing them about what goes on and how things are done out there! Supposedly things that need or want to know! I also imagine the lads doing the security are a damn sight happier to do it for Royalty than fkwit Westminster gimps.

Good on Prince Charles for going to visit his Troops. Good on him for doing it for the right reasons.

You really need to get you facts straight, the cost of getting Charlie over there is insignificant and tiny in terms of the daily cost of operations. The field of operations that he visited is already heavily protected and very little if any additional resource would be required to do this. Do you real really think that a military front line operation would have to increase security due to a visitor, the place is like fort fking knox 24x7. as for getting him there, they would no doubt have taken him in by scheduled military transporter. This would ensure that no sudden new aircraft visits where showing up on the roster.

The primary security measures taken would have been that of silence, only a handful of people would have know the date and time of his arrival, as for clearing mines for him. Really, grow up, do you honestly think that they made a special effort that day to ensure there where no mines, after all they are normally very sloppy as it only their mates that will get blown up.

The troops he met with would have already been in the garrison and would no doubt have very much enjoyed the distraction, they are very loyal to their regiments and fight proudly for queen and country. To the boys on the ground this would be a great boost.

So, to your grump, cost of visit. Almost nothing.

Where he was at - on SKY just now - front operating base. They would have cleared the ground and had the best there protecting him. People would have had to leave what they would have been normally doing that day to protect his worthless arse, potentially putting them in danger. I don't believe the cost of this was minimal - bks. Apparently he has been trying for years to get out there - fine let the fker go - put him on a plane with the rest of the normal guys get him to a base and let him to get on with it. If he wants to muck in - let him fking go and put anyone else from that lot on a plane with him, if they fancy it.

Obviously we have different views on them - so i suggest we leave it there. They haven't a clue about normal life and never will.

They have a damn site more understanding of the military than you do. Take a look at Charles Military career, trust me here, he was not molly coddled during it. I hate to say this but you really are talking complete tosh now, just where are you getting these facts from. Wether they left standard duties to cover another is irrelevant, they are still picking up the same pay in the same location. The whole idea though, and something that Charlie would have insisted on , is that he meets with and joins the standard troops on the ground.

They, as I have said, would have been proud to meet him and it would have made there tour out there that little bit better. You can be sure that they will come home proud as punch clutching there photos and telling their story for a long time.

Correct me if I am wrong here, but that after all is what it is all about. Good on you Charles.

No need to visit Afghanistan to win Forces votes: it's pretty unlikely that any votes they cast will make it back to the UK in time to be counted anyway.

Clearly you have military experience and are proud, quite rightly, of that. I would not pretend that I have. I'm sure some will see it as an inconvenience having him there - I doubt every single soldier will out there fighting for him and his lot. I also doubt if they will all be bursting with pride at his mere presence there. If all our people there had all the correct gear and were not dieing in tuna cans then I might not get so worked up - that is not the case though.

Not every Brit wants them - or likes them. We should leave it there.

I think you would be surprised.

I'm not sure what Big Ears has to do with the wrong sort of Land Rovers either.

Certainly would not deny that fact, would also agree on the funding, Charles and his mum would also agree on the funding and they lobby the Government constantly on it but have little influence, in fact you could say they a little obsessed with the Military and the Military with them.

If you want to shout at someone I suggest you stand at the door of number 10.

And trust me here, it would a brave (read really stupid) fking squady that stood up and slaged off the queen in front of his regiment.
