Tories target Gordon Brown in new poster campaign

I abhor negative politics. This is low.

They should have one that says

don't want to work? vote Labour
like industrial action vote Labour
are you a burglar vote Labour
or a hooddie vote Labour
like being in debt vote Labour
don't want a vote on europe vote Labour

add and continue at your pleasure.

I think all good hardworking people would naturally want to distance themselves from that sort of stigma.

If it's truthful then what's the problem?

This could seriously backfire on them. Telling the truth or not, the public in general do not like personal attacks.

I can see this becoming one nasty and underhanded campaign (from both sides) which I think, will lose votes rather than gain them.

And may gain some votes for other parties.

They might be better at concentrating on statistics. An upward of graph of Labour woes (public sector borrowing, unemployment, crime) would make a nice backdrop with Winky and chums in the foreground.

My problem with it is that I hate "Don't vote for him because..." politics. I would rather see "Vote for us because...".

It will end up

"Don't vote for Brown because of X"
"Don't vote for Cameron because of Y"
"Don't vote for anyone else because of Z"

A large slab of the general public seem to be unaware that Labour are directly responsible for most of the problems the UK faces. It seems only fair to ram it down the throats of the large numbers of cretins still willing to vote for them!

What's low about it? Gordon Brown destroyed private pensions back in 97, and is planning another raid soon as well.

It's low because it solely focuses on what Labour/Brown has been bad at, not what the Tories will be good at. By all means point out the failings of the administration, but don't simply leave it at that; tell us why someone else will be better.

I think the need to 'educate' the unwashed into how bad the government has been is vital as they have been deplorable and have treated its employers, us, with utter contempt. That said, this is probably not the way to do it.

I have a feeling that in the next week we are going to see a full manifesto from the Tories which will balance the negativity.

If we don't then I will have to agree that they are full of piss and wind.

In some ways I agree, but in Brown's case I actually think he's hateful enough to make an exception.

I think it is correct for the Tory Party to focus on the failures of this Govt. We're had 13 years of truly dishonest, disruptive and downright nasty governance, and you want the Tories to focus on the good things they will do?

No, the Tories need to remind the electorate what a dreadful state this country is in, and who put us in this state.

I agree. But how will the public take it? Remember they are trying to hit the Labour marginals/heartlands and will negative posters really do it or just strengthen the 'Tory tossers' hate?

I would prefer 'Brown is a tosser for xyz but Cameron will fix this by doing zyx'

And been mentioned a few times its OK to slag off the main party but you really need to show what you can offer in exchange.

Personally, I would hit other members as well, like Mandy.

Although I agree, he is a tosser
