UK: Everyone looking miserable.
Discussion
I just got back from a few years overseas.
Coming back to the UK it was a bit of a shock.
Everyone seems to be walking around looking put upon, miserable, angry...people wearing tensed up, tight lipped expressions. What is going on? I don't remember it being like this before?
I got on the plane from Dubai and straight away this was noticable.

13 years of a Labour government and the awful possibility that even if voted out Brown will remain as PM.Coming back to the UK it was a bit of a shock.

t for a very very long time, and that the older generation who f
ked up are going to reap the rewards whyile the rest of us slave away in poverty.Basically "the best" has past and look forward to nothing fun for a long long time and then you'll die.
After a while it gets you down.

Sounds like you were up north.
Yes actually.

Maybe it is just me but I didn't notice this before so much.
It might be a class thing also. In the more affluent areas near me people adopt a more open, relaxed expression. Amongst the lower classes though it appears de rigour to adopt a tense, pensive look.
OTOH as you say the economy has gone down and the idea that property will drive ones economic salvation has now seemingly died a death and reality set in. When a nice house costs £500,000 it's not suprising that most people are depressed. Add to that being in Labours CCTV Britain, a nation of rules and regulations, political correctness ramed down our throuts 24/7 by the political elites, we are even told that muslim terrorism is 'our' fault.

Simple, the realisation that the coming election should be offering salvation from the following but doesn't:- Coming back to the UK it was a bit of a shock.

the prospect of monster unemployment,
pay freezes,
fuel prices rocketing,
static house market,
more green taxes,
pervasive surveillance,
bent politicians,
lies,
higher transportation taxes just to get to work in order to pay higher income taxes,

The real problem is that the situation is bad enough not to be able to hide it or BS their way past it any longer, and that is even with an election looming, a sure sign we are in REAL trouble.

The problems we have today are as a direct result of people living beyond their means. The older generation were not allowed to do this, there were controls on credit and banks didn't give 110% mortgages to people who wanted to go on holiday before moving into their new home.

It's just this week, or at least here in London. we've had about 6-7 days of steady rain (or so it feels like).
The week before that we had temps over 12 and sunny days. Everyone was looking quite chipper and feeling positive about Spring and Summer.
Same here. Things were picking up with the increase in sunshine and temperature allowing a slight lift to peoples psyche them BANG gales and windchill of -13 in some places along with rain and snow. The week before that we had temps over 12 and sunny days. So no wonder folk are looking more pissed off than usual.
But basically yes you are correct.

if the KGB (oops sorry the Home Office), just turned off the "total surveillance machine" I'd be a tad happier
but
I'm one of the older generation and I havent got it all
havent got any of it

That's it in one. but
I'm one of the older generation and I havent got it all

It's the BB thing.
Jeez, when you have an undercover operation to 'nick' an old lady selling a goldfish in a bowl to a kid, you fine her heavily, tag her ffs, then you immediately realise this country has lost it ...BIG TIME!
And that's regardless of it being tabloid material. It just should not be happening.
I'm also one of the older generation (well, I am according to 'young people' - god I hate that pc term) but I fear for 'young people'.
Get ready for those chip-implants kids, you're going nowhere without 'them' knowing, unless there's one hell of a change in Blighty.

LETS SHOW YOUNG PEOPLE ON THE NEWS OUT HAVING A GOOD TIME AND PEOPLE WHO HAVE DONE WELL OUT OF LIFE.
Back in the 90's there were lots of TV shows about going out, partying etc. Now it's all Bad Lads Army, Ladette to Lady etc.

My old boss (who I respect more than anyone) said that abroad, people who have done well & have nice cars etc are viewed with the attitude ' He's done well, good on him' etc.
In the UK it's more like 'posing b
