Facts now count as fair comment as a defence in a libel case.

It's important to note he's only won the right to use "fair comment" as a defence in the libel case. That case itself is different all together and he may yet lose. I hope not, but we'll have to wait and see. I dare say there'll be more appeals yet, depending on outcomes.

What Andy says, this is just winning the right to defend the action properly.

What is notable is who heard the case - those are pretty big nobs hanging out at the Appeal Court. It's almost as if they want a fight with Justice Eady...

Also, Dr Singh seem to be hampering his case by conducting it from the 1980s (see pic)

What does Goldacre make of this? I presume his Twitter feed is going mental (I unfollowed him the last time he got a bit too excited about this sort of thing).

The UK libel laws are ridiculous and it's a shame it's taken this Government so long to wake up to this.

Ah, another Eady decision then, glad that he was over-ruled. Freedom of Speech in this country is being too constrained, the CofA made a good call IMHO.

Now I won't be able to find a link, but I believe it got knobbled in committee earlier this week, after heroic lobbying from those benefitting most (e.g. Carter Ruck) and MPs "listening" to said lobbying. The law change may still ne a long way off.
