Parrot - check
Hook - check
Eye patch - check

"Sorry mate, you're under qualified, but if you lose the eye-patch we do have an opening at number 10 Downing St...."

Yep, that had me laughing.....

Perhaps they were preparing to board it as well. Today a frigate, next week, an Aircraft Carrier, the Americans will pay many dollars for their return..........

would the pirates even understand the concept of a warship? I do not know anything about the area but they could just be a bunch of lay-abouts who decided to have a go at pirating.

Considering they caught 5 men on 2 boats (as I read it) they need to start a recruitment campaign to start with!

A few pirates with AKs, if they had managed to board the frigate, might have done some damage and it is not inconceivable that they could have captured her or at least commanded her decks temporarily while the crew took cover below. Not all US Navy sailors / cooks are secret seals.

A small boat did quite a bit of damage to the USS Cole a while back..

To do that you have to sneak up on it...not announce your arrival with a son et lummiere display..

A French fishing boat (unarmed)captured a royal navy vessal a few years ago the captain surrendered to them and the navy vessel was sailed to France IIRC so anything is possible.

This was during some fishing dispute aproc 10 years ago and the RN was sent on patrol in order to protect our interests.

Some mental european health a safety law probably prevented them from shooting at the Frenchies.

Surely you are joking? In many instances they have trouble getting onboard or don't get onboard unamrmed merchant vessels. Do you honestly believe they would be able to sneak up and get onboard a heavily armed naval vessel.

Pirates keep mistaking naval vessels for merchant vessels, when all you can see at night are a few navigation lights from several miles away it is an easy mistake to make. It is happening quite often:

I don't imagine it would be easy but it would be possible... small boat lost in the warship's wake, grapelling hooks over the taffrail, AKs on full auto.. most defences would be looking for somthing bigger, futher away and more sophisticated.
