Nick Griffin to be stripped of degree by Cambridge.
Discussion
I'm not fan of the BNP but what cowardly behavior by Cambridge University? They obviously want to prove their 'anti-racist' credentials by this act. It seems to me indefensible to strip his degree just because he is 'reviled'...what sort of morality is that? Mob rule?
What gets me is we know that British Academia is a fever swamp for Islamic extremism yet the academic establishment won't act on that!

In an unprecedented move, Griffin is set to become the first person to have a degree that has been studied for rescinded by the University.
It is believed that the University’s association with the hate figure has become untenable due to his recent appearance on Question Time, where he was booed, heckled and shouted down at regular intervals.
Winning the honour of being voted “the worst Cantab in history” by The Tab readers in November gave a clear indication of his standing in the city.
But this could become history thanks to a postal vote conducted by the Regent House in the last month.
The University’s governing body is made up of most of Cambridge’s academics.
With over 3 000 members, however, meetings are only held once a year at Senate House, with the awarding of degrees.
The rest of business is conducted through the archaic postal system. If a motion is proposed by 100 members it must be voted on.
The motion was passed by 64%, and now only need to be ratified by the Vice-Chancellor to be complete.
“The University simply cannot afford to be connected with such a widely reviled figure”, Tim Colt, Deputy Director of Communications said yesterday.
“This is highly irregular, but well within the limits of the governing body”
The closest parallel to this came in 2007, when the University of Edinburgh rescinded Robert Mugabe’s Honorary Degree.
In erasing the bigot from the records, the University risk placing him on a par with the genocidal President of Zimbabwe.
Students supported the exile of the bug-eyed loon.
Downing third-year Pete Diver simply told The Tab: “the guy’s a t
t”.
It is still unclear whether the hot-blooded hate-monger’s Boxing Blue will stand.

Controversial British National Party Chairman and MEP Nick Griffin is to have his degree STRUCK OFF by the University, sources close to Senate House have indicated.

So he works hard to get a degree. A supposed seat of learning wishes to show how politically neutral it is by stripping someone of their degree because he's not liked. Will they be refunding him the cost of the degree?
I don't like Nick Griffin or the BNP but if Cambridge do this they've made themselves look very foolish and open to political influence.

Can't stan the
, but this is very silly of the Cambridge Senate House, although entirely within its powers.
They may be able to change the written record, but the fact is that he earned the degree. There have been plenty of racist t
ts who have done so and kept their degrees. The Cambridge spies were not stripped of theirs, despite committing treason.
