Peter Tatchell, a Green Party member, long time Gay Rights activist, socialist and general lefty figurehead is without doubt one of the bravest and most principled men of two generations.

I could find a thousand points to disagree with him on yet he remains a hero of mine.

From attending Gay Rights marches in Russia (where he could easily have been disappeared), to taking on Mugabe's thug bodyguards without thought for his own safety(leaving him with permanent damage), to openly criticizing Islamic fundamentalism while everybody else runs scared.
He has stuck to his principles despite accusations of racism, religious intolerance and anti-semitism.

This bloke has been hated by every side of every community at every turn and yet he refuses to comprises his principles.

Frankly I couldn't give a sh*t if I find some of his views absurd, thankfully we live in a system that allows such debate, and if I ever get the chance to shake his hand I would consider it an honour.

Top bloke.

Couldn't agree with you more. I heard him defending a bloke who got arrested for saying 'all gays are going to burn in hell' or something like that, defending his right to free speech.

I don't agree with some of his stuff but I admire the way he is prepared to stand up for his principles.

It's called democracy.

I agree with the OP, and I agree that he's a man of principle, but I have reservations. I mean come on, he's been in the media for nigh on three decades, so let's not forget all the other stuff too, he's also been a huge ahole in more ways than one over the years.

Not that there's anything wrong in being a huge ahole of course, some of my best friends are huge aholes, and I've been known to be one myself from time to time.
