Police have arrested two women after they tried to take the body of a dead relative onto a plane at Liverpool John Lennon Airport.

Staff became suspicious when the women tried to check in the man, who was wearing sunglasses, for a flight to Berlin on Saturday.

The man is thought to have died the previous day and was in a wheelchair.

The women, aged 41 and 66, were arrested on suspicion of failing to give notification of a death.

The pair, who are German nationals but live in Oldham, have been released on bail until 1 June, police said.

Officers are investigating reports that the body had been taken to the airport by taxi from Oldham, a spokesman said.

What the hell is wrong with some people..?

Would they have paid for a seat too or just checked him in with their baggage?

That's bonkers hehe

Would love to see inside their minds for just a second to try and work out the thought process for the rational that this was a good idea.

Well, it's cheaper than shipping him home in a coffin. Must have been like something from a comedy show. They should at least have put him in a wheelchair.

I knew someone who claimed an elderly relative passed away, en route to a westbound north sea ferry, in the back seat of their car, many, many years ago.

Reminds me of the apocryphal story, thoroughly debunked on Snopes of course, where the granny dies on holiday and the main parties take various means to conceal the body to get her through security and passport checks, wrapping up in a roofbox, siitting on the caravan toliet and so on. Only for the car/ caravan whatever to be stolen on the trip back.

Er could we arrange a real life reconstruction and feasability study with the main role being played posthumously by Winky?

I would so love to see the episode of "Airport" when they show that one. I can just imagine the dozy sleazy jet scouse bint getting all attitude with them and saying he'll have to get a latter flight and pay for it, "eeeee eeeeee eeeeeee I don't care if he died while waiting to check in, I can't hold the flight"

Must have been difficult for Sleazyjet staff to tell the difference between their usual customers and a dead body . . . they usually only act dead after eating the food like substances they deliver on board and drinking the hot acid they refer to as coffee.
