Serious question, I'm not familiar with the history/politics in that area and it may be as simple as the way northern towns seem to be labour through and through.

It was certainly very Labour (or even Communist) in the industrial Clydeside. The countryside used to be quite Tory, but that changed in Maggie's time - seen as very southern-centric, apart from trialling poll tax in Scotland first. Initially this went to Labour - Edinburgh used to be Tory, but now it's all Labour (including Alistair Darling).

A bit more complicated now. SNP have significant traction, and Labour have cocked up nationally. Lib-dems have taken over where the Tories used to garner support. But neither Labour nor SNP have been seen to do anything significant in the Scottish Parliament.

The only reasons to like them would be:

Your proudly receiving benefits to breed criminals in a free house.

Or you have a nonjob in the public sector that is certain to be cut.

Or your completely devoid of a memory and you couldn't care less about the finances of the country.

Taking your points one by one in that wonderful piece of prose.

1) Applies more to the biggest council estate in Europe, namely the north of England, than it ever could Scotland in any way you care to cut it, from head of population under ASBO to being in jail, through to employment statistics.

2) Public sector employ is greatest in, shock horror, the south of England. There was a fantastic BBC programme exposing the same a few yers back. They same south of England that thinks 'everyone should stand on their own two feet' was the Beeb's excellent, sarcastic tag line. Doubt you seen it. It wasn't on childrens hour.

3) Memory, oh, like you mean the land of milk and honey that it was under Thatcher? The rape of the shipbulding, which genuinely was the best in the world, but had no Government investment, unlike for example the German or Japanese yards. Or maybe Ravenscraig, the most productive strip mill in the world, 6 months before they allowed its sale brick by brick to the Chinese the lads were given medals made from Ravenscraig steel to commemorate BEING the best in the world at what they did.

Actually, you're an idiot. Run along and play now. The Janet and John books are in the corner waiting for you.

Don't let them stretch you now will you?

It's not about liking labour it's disliking the tories, both SNP and LD are more popular. Don't blame us for voting labour, blame the tories for being complete screwups north of the border.

Hopefully it's got a preservation order on it, we don't want traditions like this dying out like their customers.

Hopefully, Scotland will vote en masse for the SNP.

An independent Scotland means there will never be another Labour goverment in the rest of the (partial) UK

P/S Nothing against Scots themselves , but Labour have caused immense harm by their policies. Therefore England would benefit from the dissolving (sic) of the union.

Not if you keep voting them in as you have done for the past 13 years! As long as their MPs don't rebel, Labour still have a majority in England without their Scottish MPs.
