Read his profile on wiki and seems to have led a bit of a silver spooned life, with unusually quick promotions with little experience didn't do much (data entry, selfridges, failed journalist) then tipped off about a Tory party HQ job and in less than a year become special adviser to a minister etc-although he may well be exceptionally good...) Apparently was made chancellor after two others turned it down.

Can't see any financial background (studied history ) either.

Its the main worry about the Tories for me as Darling has done well and brought many years of varied experience with him.

Anyone met him or know more about him?

I doubt economic policy is determined by one individual within a Government.

Whats wrong with Badger? he was landed in the deep end with the recession and held his corner well- get the impression he is very much his own man and not scared to stand up to no10.

Darling is not much different really. Private school, well off family, a year or 2 as a solicitor then straight into politics. I don't really see any varied experiences?

Have to admit I am curious if the perception of the Conservatives would be better or worse with someone like Ken Clarke as Shadow Chancellor.

Winky lectured in politics, and then had a job as a "journalist" whilst awaiting a safe labour seat, he has NO commercial or financial experinence outside managing an expense account

The big difference between the two will be if Osborne continues to listen to his advisors.............. Something Winky is widely derided for being incapable of doing and the biggest factor in his monumental cock ups over the past 13 years

Of course. He kept us from drowning during the recent recession, ensuring we had a strong position going in and enabled us to be in an excellent position on the way out.

His financial management has ensured that our troops are well equipped and well supported.

He has kept down spending and ensured that we are still a strong and powerful nation, uneasily rocked by the turbulent global issues that the rest of the world suffer from.

Irony eh? We'll be needing plenty of that if Winky & Co. do not get the order of the boot.

Oh god, how awful that we have politicians that went to the best schools, and aren't necessarily motivated by personal wealth...

FFS, this class envy is pathetic.

Sadly experience in a particular field has nothing to do with the post a politician holds. Sure they have advisers but it would still make sense to have an economist, or someone from a business background as Chancellor.

Likewise, the Tories have Liam Fox as the next Defence Secretary however given he is an ex GP and has seen and worked in the NHS first hand, he'd be much better as Health Secretary.

He has been in the cabinet since Labour came to power in 1997. He was in a number of positions, including Sec of state for Trade and Industry, before becoming CofE.

He was not 'landed in the deep end', he helped dig the deep end and has been struggling to regain some semblance of credibility since. Unsuccessfully.

The only reason he appears to be able to disagree with Winky is because he is the person in the strongest position to be able to blow the gaffe on winky's true role in the Country's downfall.

Everytime I see osbourne, I always look for puppet strings and expect to see cameron controlling him from a rooftop! He's just a younger smug version of cameron? Always has that smug grin on his face.
