RIP. Terrible tragedy. Typing as the wife of a firefighter, it really brings it home how dangerous their job is. They are all very very brave.

Just been listening to Jeremy Vine at work, and there are actually people ringing up to argue against any sort of tribute or time given to them in the News. "If I died at work, would anyone care?" said one simpleton.
Well I don't know. Is it your job to rescue people from burning buildings?

Was sat in the pub with a stream of fire engines going past up Shirley high street and we were just thinking what on earth was going on.

Then I looked out of the window this morning and saw half the block of flats covered in soot! Quite surreal.

RIP to the firemen. These old council blocks seem to be fire related death traps!

Didn't one of them have some sort of terrible structural failure only a few days ago?

I say close all Council housing in Southampton, and move the lot of them to Eastleigh.

I couldn't help but be amazed at the witness who told the BBC this

"Mr Simpson sent a mobile text to "a couple of friends and told them the fire was on their side of the block". "

Sent them a text FFS! I can just imagine the contents

"Hi m8 fire on ur sd, gtg wtchng t x fcter, init"

Why not just call??
