Well i'm due to graduate in about year and a halfs time, when i graduate my mum wants me to get my own place with my own mortgage so i'm not a drain to her and not paying someone elses mortgage through paying rent... so basically i'll have to pull together all funds i can get in order to get a deposit... even if i get half of the 50k which the government is handing out to travelers i'd be happy! means i dont have to sell my soul to get a decent mortgage!

Mods - can you update thread title with some sort of 'context' - nearly reposted - ta

On topic, this is shocking, although the article is clearly written to incite anger

"Travellers are being offered interest-free loans funded by the taxpayer"
"They will then repay the loans over a timespan of their choosing, without paying a penny in interest."

In my local town, the resident 'travellers' were GIVEN a beautiful, seaside plot to encourange them away from the town centre. This plot is probably worth a quarter of a million plus.

Whilst the result was achieved (the travellers vacated the town), it should have been achieved by 'stick' (i.e. punishment for not complying) rather an the 'carrot' approach that was taken.

Same applies here.

I've been on holiday and I've lived in other countries. Does that make me a traveller and if so where do I sign up?

Sorry i dont know how to change the title, can an admin change it for me please?

I dont like to judge, but i really do hate it when travelers come to town... they're filthy... they thieve... and just a no go for me.

last experience i had was not a nice one...
once in local supermarket some were stopped for stealing (blue rays and PS3 games! WTF?)
at the same time there 9-10yr old, decides to pull down his pants and take a massive dump in the middle of the shop floor! made me want to be sick!
Went out for a few beers with the lads, one of them just stands close me, not making much of it, just a little smelly... next thing i knew he picks up my pint "accidentally" takes a swig and says "sorry... here have it back" I firmly declined, walked away and bought another pint, stayed well clear from him after that and made sure i always had my drink in site!

Do they pay taxes in this country? Income tax, national insurance and council tax being the three main ones that nuke my earnings.

If they do, this boils my piss a hell of a lot less than other things that taxes are spent on.

It would be good to get some non-biased reporting of the facts though. Unlikely from Soovy's favourite read...

They don't even pay for their goods, let alone taxes on the money they haven't earned to not spend on the goods they aren't paying for.

The only 'taxes' they complete are the ones that involve relieving you of your goods.

How did previous Government's deal with 'Gypsies' and crime/taxes etc?

Seems they get away with a lot these days, has it always been the same?

I think you need to have a house in ireland and be over here in a stolen caravan using it as a base while you steal things and put curses on people.

"Labouring" - which involves anything that pay cash in hand
that and "thieving" - which involves anything that isn't nailed down.
