Ouch- would have been suprised even if it was some shoddy branch in a run down town sure, but astonished that its as high profile as Leicester Square?!

High profile it may be but from my experience as a manager for a popular chain of this ilk in the mid-90's, the central London branches don't get "choice" staff and often have a higher proportion of quality issues.

The premises don't always have fully practical layouts due to building age (most branches elsewhere are built to a strict spec). Finally, these prime site locations are generally loss leaders (rent vs income) so that they can just have a prestige location like their rivals, which doesn't help

No excuse for some of the stuff found however

"Environmental health inspectors from City of Westminster Council said cockroaches, mice and flies were found during an inspection of the premises in Coventry Street on August 15 last year. "

If they were still alive surely that would be a positive for the food.

WHY do people find this a surprise?

It's junk food... for 'profit'. Everything else is secondary.

KFC spokeswoman Nina Arnott said: "These charges date back to August 2008 and, as soon as we were made aware of the results of the inspection, we took immediate action to bring the restaurant back up to our strict hygiene standards.

Usual lip service. The thing is they should NOT have to be made aware.

McLibels, KFC, Burger King... wouldn't go near them if you paid me.
In fact, I've never gone near them except when my kids were born.
Cured me. Yuk.

I would add to this but wouldn't want to be held liable but this comes as no suprise.

If you've ever seen some of the people who prep the food at KFC, it won't be a huge surprise to you.

Indeed. I'll never understand why people go out to these places as a 'special treat'.

Our local KFC has a five star hygiene rating on the council's website. Higher, indeed, then The Ivy smile

Look on the bright side - you'd still only pay a tenner for a family bucket of tainted KFC at the Leicester Square branch, whereas you could have paid the thick end of a grand for a novelty dinner including 'st-stained-surprise Oysters' at a certain establishment in Bray.

When I worked at the local council I had access to the Environmental Health records for all these sorts of places, and KFC were always, by far and away, the worst. Even the local late night kebab places used to get better inspection results.

This reminds me.

Has anyone seen the KFC advert where the chap is preparing fresh chicken thighs etc and cooking them. He says that they are cooked fresh every day.

How can KFC get away with blatant truth bending on an ad like this? smile

Our local KFC is an absolute mess and has been closed down several times. It seems to do worse than all of the other chains.

I worked at kfc when I was 16 ok this was 13 years ago but the place was clean and by no means unhygienic. I have to say I've been in some and walked out straight away. Lol

They are tackling the hygiene issues by removing the need to store bread products, they're going all chicken.

The KFC 'Double Down'

On sale in the US next week. Chicken, bacon and mayonnaise with extra rubbery processed imitation cheese like products, here soon no doubt.

I like McDonalds, KFC and Burger King.

I can honestly tell you that there are a lot of snobby people but they fill a purpose and they aren't that bad.

The standards of hygiene at these places are FAR FAR better than normal takeaways, most restaurants and infact most other food places.

Most KFC's are spotless and have strict, rigorous checks.

I could go into any pub or restaurant kitchen and find things that are amiss.

If you are hungry driving down the M1 and no where is open the big M or the colonel is a welcome sign. If you have a fiver in your pocket and need filling up with warm food quickly then a burger and chips and a drink for a fiver is brilliant.

I think they are great and they are great for taking the kids out for a treat if you are on a low income.

Not everyone can eat at the fat duck for lunch and tea everyday.

I know it's chavvy and it's not my favourite place but god do I hate snobs. These are worldwide, multi billion pound empires that people have build from nothing in a lifetime - anyone on here would love to do that. There are millions of people that have a mcdonalds every day so that is testament to the tried and tested success of these fast food giants.

There is too much snobbery and jumping on the bandwagon of 'i only eat waitrose grilled chicken' and 'i only eat out at the ivy' but reality is most people have been skint at one time or another be it at uni, be it after divorce etc and it's nice to get out of the house.
Ok, I agree with your right to eat where you please, and I don't judge you by it in the slightest but I have kids.
These kids are seduced by all the child aimed advertising that is aimed at they want a Mc ste at every oppurtunity. If I allowed this they would be overweight and undernourished, really this is the case.
I don't allow them unrestricted access to fast food. In fact they never ask me as on the one occasion I took them and watched them order a happy meal each I asked the server to supply the 'food' in plain wrapping without any toys.
Some parents however can't be troubled to cook food for their little 'benefits entitlements' and so send them to the nearest poison provider.
Not my problem?
Who will pay their hospital bills?

They sell lowest-common-denominator muck to the ignorant simpleton masses who know no better than to debase themselves with the fetid slop.

Saying that, how much does a McDonald's franchise cost? scratchchin
