There is so much voter apathy in this country, so why do the Gov not set up a voting by website or text system?

It's easy enough to create a secure system these days, i believe they did it in the US.

Everyone has a special code, cab only ve used once.

Send Code + A, B or C to 89999

Easy.

So come on, why can't they do this? It would certainly get a lot more people voting...

What's to stop people selling/giving away their vote code?

A text vote would certainly cut national debt, or make Simon Cowell more millions.

smile

Unfortunately our next Prime Minister would be JLS.

It'd be amazing.... You'd send in your votes for this election and they'd eventually register for some far distant future election... or it'd go tits like Big Brother voting and you'd think you were voting for the Lib Dems or Tories and instead the votes would go to Labour.

Okay okay, so the text system would be abused.

but surely an internet system would work? Personaly information would be used to login, like a banking system?

Oh i dunno.

I just don't want to go to a polling station and stand in line with grannies smelling of piss.

Labour would pay people to DDoS the servers

I can log into my bank securely and send money to any account in the world, but voting securely?
Nope, that's impossible...rolleyes

Yes, yes I will be your new Prime Minister. But to do so I will need £25,000 transferred by Western Union first.

Text or Web voting would make it easy for those genuinely unable to make it to the polls on time, it would also lead to lots of stupid votes by stupider people.

Skipping past the obvious fallacy there... can you do it secretly?

How would you know that the person voting hadn't been coerced and watched as they entered their vote?

Electronic fraud is rife with the UK topping most lists in Europe at least.
Our government has the most appalling history in information security.
And you think you can transfer money to someone secretly (a fundamental democratic principle), i.e. without them, your bank or their bank knowing it was you who sent it.

Tickles me, a lot.
