So if I get married they will give me an extra £150 of tax allowances (might just have been £150) but if I'm divorced paying loads of maintenance or I'm a single parent struggling to pay the bills I get nothing. If I am married and run off with another woman and get married again I get rewarded.

Already decided not to vote labour, now I have decided not to vote Tory who's left?

Maybe UKIP

Tax breaks for married couples is not a net vote-loser.

But don't you only get the allowance if your partner doesn't have an income?

It is for me because it shows what a headline grabbing scheming mob they are, this will only be the tip of the iceberg, vote grabbing for the hard of thinking!

Here comes a load of posts saying how you voting UKIP is effectively a vote for Broon smile

I agree with you, Tories have shot themselves in the foot over this whole 'we'll reward marriage' issue.

What with the road charging scheme and now this I don't think I want to vote Tories now either.

So, not voting Labour, Tory, Lib Dem, UKIP, mainly because they are all schizters. Anyone left? lol

Single Parents get Tax credits, get child benefit, if they are really poor they get income support, housing benefit etc.

Divorcee, well you get single persons taxation.

Married, there is a potential that one partner stays at home the other works, this can happen either through choice or in the current climate through one losing their job or having hours cut to the point that the job doesn't pay enough to be worthwhile. The best approach would probably be to share the tax allowance between both partners, what's the point in a £3K allowance if you are only earning a couple of grand for the year.

I am divorced paying maintenance why should they get a tax allowance that I can't I am still contributing to the children and if you like the net marriage

You're not going to vote for the Tories because you didn't get a hand-out? Will you feel the same about any other change to the tax system that you don't directly benefit from?

Because it's aimed at being married and you've opted out of this for whatever reason, it's not aimed at bringing up children for which you already get a handout.

Definite votewinner for me smile

The institution of marriage should be supported. The lack of a stable family environment plays a significant part in poor educational achievement which, in turn, leads to a higher likelhiood of being involved in crime.

Aren't the only people to benefit from this low income married couples?
So it encourages low income couples to get married?
Surely low income couples cannot afford to get married when you consider the cost of marriage these days?

Afford to get married?

Everyone can afford to get married. One is not forced to engage in elaborate shindigs.

So if the Tories buy all of the married people, will they get in?
