The Election - getting involved?
Discussion
So I've decided to get off my backside and actually get involved a little in this election.
I am a member of the Conservatives and have had a good look around at the local campaigns and registered my interest, but to be honest I haven't a clue as to what it may involve.
I've got half an idea that it will mainly mean having doors closed in my face and phones put down on me!
Has anyone else got involved with an election before and if so - am I far off the mark?

Your pretty much spot on, at a base volunteer level, its all about getting the message out ....................... and being at the bottom of the pile, you'll be at the sharp end.I am a member of the Conservatives and have had a good look around at the local campaigns and registered my interest, but to be honest I haven't a clue as to what it may involve.

It can however be good fun and as we've all seen in the papers, its not always a 100% dry job

I'm not doing it this year due to work and family comitments, otherwise I would be helping the local conservatice association out

It's got to be better than job hunting. At least with canvassing, you've got the party behind you.I am a member of the Conservatives and have had a good look around at the local campaigns and registered my interest, but to be honest I haven't a clue as to what it may involve.

Just got confirmed this morning - opening postal votes on the week before the election, and counting postal votes on the 6th as well.
And anyone can do this?
They will have had jobs for postal ballot counting and counting in the evening. They may also have jobs at polling stations on the 6th.
And its all paid work as well. Dunno how much, but the money is secondary at the end of the day.
Did the main count in 1992 for Walton and Elmbridge (2 constituencies) and it was great fun. Been meaning to do it again ever since.
