Effect of EU on the UK Aftermarket

vote UKIP
it's a good point. Every major party has rejected the idea of referendum as they say it's "too late".Regarding helping Labour stay in power - surely people should vote for what they believe in ? If 65% of people want to leave the EU and 65% of people voted for UKIP they'd get in wouldn't they?
If it does go tits up for the Tories it will be this EU issue that causes it and therefore perhaps they should not just be saying it's "too late" to do anything?

Is nobody else worried that because of the Lisbon Treaty we will in time end up with a system where we will be able to do very little modification to cars?
We currently are more free than any country in Europe with regard to this but for how long?
What can we do?
Will the "Lisbon Treaty" mean that we will all have to carry hi-viz jackets in the car (like in most of Western Europe?)We currently are more free than any country in Europe with regard to this but for how long?
What can we do?
Will the "Lisbon Treaty" mean that cruise control will become illegal (as in Belgium)
Will the "Lisbon Treaty" mean that the motorway speed limit will increase to 130 kmh (as in France, or even better will it mean we have to adopt German motorway limits)?
Will the "Lisbon Treaty" mean we all have to drive on the right?
Blame the Lisbon Treaty for things the Lisbon Treaty is responsible for, but FFS stop being so bloody paranoid about Europe.

"Paranoia is a thought process heavily influenced by anxiety or fear, often to the point of irrationality and delusion"Yes I am full of fear of a European superstate which is what the Lisbon Treaty IS about. Which side of the road we drive on is hardly relevant BUT under EU it could change. In fact that's just the kind of nonsensical waste of money idea I'd expect.
As for being irrational and deluded - I think it's pretty level headed to disagree with a Treaty that fundementally seeks to take away our power to govern our own country.
If you have some information that will make me feel reassured about Europe, please let me know as the Lisbon Treaty sure isn't it.
I've asked the major parties what they think about the threat to the tuning industry from the EU. As you would expect because there isn't any concrete date for anything I can't get any sense out of them.
My local Conservative MP did at least say they wanted to change the way the UK's relationship with the EU was handled but what worries me is that after ditching the promised referendum can anything really be done to halt it?
For example if any of you want a Sports cat or manifold for a post 2001 car under new EU regs it must now be type approved. This has effectively destroyed a niche market for a lot of UK companies (as type approval would cost a lot of money).
I got this reply from UKIP which they asked me to post on here.
"UKIP (and only UKIP) can save the aftermarket tuning-industry from destruction by eventual "harmonisation" with continental norms and standardisation - like the German TÜV-system - because the removal of the EU from Britain is the only way to do this, and only UKIP is prepared to do it.
The UK's handful of "MEP's" - and a government composed of any one, or more, of the incumbent pro-EU parties - will be quite incapable of stopping this "harmonisation". There is, as far as I know, no immediate threat of its imposition; but it will surely come, because it will mean a cheaper, more automatic system of surveillance and control, which the EU (and its satellite governments) will leap at.
As a further risk involved, MOT-testers might well be instructed, as part of this "harmonisation", to fail vehicles for featuring modified parts. The EU-legislation could easily be "gold-plated", to achieve this, even if it is not specified in the directive. Nothing is safe from the EU, except independence from it!
Yours sincerely
Nigel Farage"
I wonder how many Petrol heads there are in the UK? I wonder if they proposed removal of all speed cameras, 6 points for middle lane hogging and obligatory car control courses for new drivers if they'd get in? :-)

The conservatives did not "ditch" the referendum; the entire referendum issue became redundant as soon as the Lisbon treaty was passed into law by the labour party. You can’t have a referendum on whether to sign up to it or not as "we" have already signed on the dotted line, the conservatives have however promised a referendum before agreeing to any further power agreements with the EU

For another 5 years of winky, good show !The chances of Labour getting anything near the amount they need are pretty slim.
My feelings are that we are headed for either a Conservative majority, or a hung parliament.
