So, if they get their way and Wales and Scotland are cast adrift from the UK, what diffference will it make?

Will anyone be better or worse off? Who will pay for what? Do we we keep a single army.

I assume their manifestos cover these things?

The SNP believe Scotland will be better off with independence.

It is in their 2010 Manifesto, there is a dedicated section on their website, and a white paper has been published.

There is also a draft referendum bill on the issue.

The referendum is only focused on "whether the Scottish Government should negotiate with the Government of the United Kingdom to achieve independence for Scotland". The practical realities would be negotiated in the event of the referendum returning a positive result for that option.

It'll be great. Both hardly vote Conservative at all and prop up the English labour vote in the UK parliament that many of them want to be independent of.

Win-win and all the more ironic for devolution being a labour plan which was based on the misapprehension that the Welsh and Scots would still vote labour.

If Wales gets independance I'm moving to England. The Welsh NASDAP will run it into the ground in short order.

I thought Wales was a principality of England and not a country per se?

I can't find thier policy on europe but don't they just want to leave the UK and be subsidised by Europe as full members of the EU rather like Ireland has been?

They would be 3rd world countries run by Brussels and the IMF if they split off.

The only people to benefit would be the local political classes who get more power and prestige.

I'd consider it too. I wouldn't mind it so much if they were halfway competant, but Plaid are a right bunch of fecking wasters rolleyes

on both points, this was exactly the plan and consequence(s) that Blair and his champers brigade wanted. A devolved, broken UK that would be easily absorbed into the EU Superstate.

Plaid Cymru is so amusing, much better than the other joke parties like the monster raving loonies, I love how they've managed to portray that brilliant joke idea of Welsh independence as a genuine policy for so long. They must have a job not to laugh during the speeches.

Of course they would say that since it gives them more POWER.

Was mountain biking in Snowdonia over the weekend and, was heartened to see so many Conservative banners and billboards on display.

If the PR is any reflection - I admit it may not be - I don't see the loony fringe doing well anywhere from the borders near Welshpool, right into the heart of Powys. I think I saw one UKIP, one Lib Dem and one Plaid banner, all the rest were Cons.

Independence has always been the principle aim of the SNP.

The Greens also support independence.

I could not agree more! We spend 32% more in government spending than we contribute to the economy! That is a serious deficit, we leech so much from the rest of the UK we would stand no chance as an individual nation!

How is that in contradiction to what I said?
