The BBC wheeled out the obligatory leftie, who likened the scheme to Nazi policy in the first sentence.

There is something known as the Godwin defence which brings up racialism as a method of trumping any counter in an argument.

There must be a similar name for proposing that something stems from the Nazis.

I don't think anyone should ever accept such an offer.

But I'm not sure it should be illegal to make it.

There's plenty of chavs in the UK that it would be a benefit to society if they didn't breed.

Godwin is the Nazi reference one - "As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches 1."

Fair enough. But there must be another law that relates to racialism, or is it an extension of Godwin's Law?

I wouldn't describe it as eugenics really. The idea of eugenics is to 'improve' a population, while Harris states that her aim is to avoid having children that are neglected.

I'm not really in favour of blackmail payouts, but this is private money, and is an agreement between two consenting adults. I would question that a drug addict is really of sound mind, and if they are capable of making such a decision while $300 is being waved in their face, but I would almost always assume that people are capable of self determination.

Population control will be a fact sooner or later. There's no getting away from it. Starting with the elements of society more likely to neglect the children they produce seems like a good place to start IMO.

Godwin's Law is true - but the Nazis Era is a spectre that hovers over us showing what CAN go wrong when extreme solutions are promulgated. It's no wonder that this fairly recent historical example of how things can go wrong is brought up frequently.

Watch the DVD "The Nazis - A Warning From History" to see how an intelligent, fairly well educated and cultured society can succumb to base instincts and hatred.

Unfortunatly the opposite is happening at the moment.

I quite like the idea, but only if the sterilisation is reversible in future, as people do sometimes get themselves off addictions, start working etc and grow into capable parents. Would be a shame if they then missed out on having children.
