China executes killer of eight school children

What are your thoughts - did they do the right thing?

Personally, I feel there is a need for capital punishment for extreme cases such as this. However there needs to be a robust judicial system in place to try and stop miscarriages of justice.

Agreed.

I see no reason not to execute that kind of person - as long as we are sure he was guilty and of sound mind (of course, his mind is plainly not quite right due to the fact that he went and stabbed some kids, but you know what I mean).

They always pull the "he/shes are a mental" card out. Of course he is mental, he stabbed 8 children in cold blood.

Absolutely the right result. It is also pleasing that the Chinese don't hang about with appeal after appeal and then 20 years languishing on a death row.

I don't believe in the death penalty but would be pro-torture for such cases.

Someone like this should be imprisoned, then subjected to mental and physical torture for the rest of their lives.

This is far worse than simply killing him.


ETA: Actually reading back what I wrote, that sounds a bit sadistic. I guess what I mean is whilst I'm not really pro-death penalty those locked up for such crimes should have their life made as difficult as possible for them. ie. locked in small cell, no luxuries, forced labour etc.
