Talking about the 'black vote' on Sky.

Apparently it's 'that powerful'?

Why? Do 'the blacks' have a union style 'block vote'? Are 'the blacks' like a Borg collective and vote 'as one'?

I love the irony in all this communitarian crap.

If you are the majority, then it is you who has to be tolerant, encompassing, inclusive, non-bigoted, but if you are some sort of minority, then you can be as awful as you like!

Of course, you can also pander to this in a positively discriminatory way.

How about the lesbian vote, or the paedophile vote, how about left handed guitarists rolleyes

No, its just the media boiling things down to their simplest form. Them trying to infer that blacks, muslims, or any other ethnic group will vote for one party or another based on the colour of their skin or their religious beliefs is just asinine.

Um, they aren't inferring it really does happen ... look at USA where the majority of the "African Americans" voted for Obama, despite being far more split in previous elections

Thats the USA, this is Britain. The same demo/repub dividing lines which split the races in the US as far as I can see do not exist here.

We aren't talking party lines though, we are talking about the blacks voting for a black predominantly, now dont tell me race wasn't the major factor there

Sorry, I guess you misread me. I'm trying to direct the discussion back to the supposition made by the media about the race factor in the UK. Yes, theres no denying that in the US race was a major factor, but in the UK are there the same dividing lines? I don't believe so.

Why don't you believe so?. It's yet another 'elephant in the room' scenario where Asians vote en bloc for the political force that they believe will benefit them best; as a distinct ethnic group.

Why don't you believe so?
Because I've seen no evidence of it, mainly. smile

Show me some stats and I may change my view, otherwise its just another baseless assumption being bandied around the forum.

Who will the Asians be voting for in your opinion on Thursday?

It just seems to me to be an oversimplified view to say that Asians will vote for one party over another purely based on their race.

Again no stats to back this up but I think it would be more likely that a persons income rather than their race would have a greater effect on their voting preference.

Labour.
Look at the voting figures for oldham wards if you think this doesn't happen.
Also look at where a lot of the postal vote issues have come from too.
