The 'Official', next leader of the Labour Party Thread
Discussion
I was wondering this yesterday....do Labour have it in them to once again 're-invent' themselves and become whiter-than-white in the eyes of the masses??? or is this the final jig of a party hanging by the neck?
I mean I can't name any new 'young blood' with either the brains, balls or plain simple piss'n'vinegar to carry it off. And all the old hands are now that drenched in 'blood' that they can't touch anything without staining it in the eyes of the country.
If on Thursday night the Cons get a majority (however slim) and Labour is badly beaten into 3rd, reduced to Sub-1982 seats I can honestly see it being abandoned by the Unions (as they look to get a foothold in the Libs) So with no finacials from the Unions and few seats Labour might slowly die.

A bit premature to be talking about the end of the Labour party. The Tories were probably in a worse state in 97, though at least they had done some genuine good to fall back on.
I hope so, but to really kill them off once and for all there has to be a two pronged approach. One, a good Tory government - cut spending and cut taxes dramatically. 5 years is plenty if they have a working majority. Show people that it really is better that way, and cut the umbillical cord that means such a huge proportion of the population depends on the state.
Secondly, get really nasty. I think this is where Thatcher failed and why Labour have succeeded. Labour shamelessly promote their own interests at the expense of any opposition, the Tories try to win everyone over through things like expanding home ownership.
It doesn't work. Getting nasty means taking the criminals out of circulation - death or 30+ year sentences for repeat offenders. It means bulldozing the council estates - Labour have a policy of providing "social" housing in rural areas and expensive suburbs, under the guise of social inclusion. Rubbish, it's a way of diluting Tory support while harassing the middle class with their criminal underclass supporters. Bulldoze the lot, cram the Labour voters into slum ghettos well out of the way.
It means rooting out the left wing place men in the civil service, the justice system and the education system and replacing them with our own, and leaving in place a system that ensures right wing people are more likely to get these jobs. Favouring military expereience is one idea.
Get rid of the BBC and/or force it to seek commercial funding. So long as it's a state entity a left wing bias is guaranteed.
Make sure we're getting the right sort of immigrants. People from western countries who find work here, no problem. Skilled, productive, employable people from none western countries yes. Nigerian email scammers and Kenyan bank robbers no f
king way. Send them back in a leaky boat.
Plenty more to do but IMO Cameron's hope of saving the country is dependent entirely on the extent to which he follows the above. The alternative is a weak, aimless government who will just steady the ship enough to hand back to Labour or a coalition in another 5 years.

It's a fair point - the Tories were in an almighty mess. However, there wasn't an alternative right wing party to hoover up their disillusioned voters. Hence everyone voted for Bliar and co.
This time, the LibDems are perfectly poised to switch places with Labour - and have been very successful in doing so. The TV debates were perfectly timed to capture people who didn't want to vote Labour and wouldn't vote Tory.
It seems Lady Mandelson wants to avoid a leadership contest and drop Millipede in to the job. I suspect the Labour Party members won't allow it this time. My bet is there is going to be a lurch to the left.

Why "Official" in the thread title.....
I don't understand why people do this. Does this make all other threads "unofficial"?

- Is it not the done thing? Maybe I should have nuked it from orbit, before smashing it's back doors in!!!
;)Chuckle at my silliness.

(Maybe I should have gone for "Officious" instead.)
