Why hasnt c4 had a "Remortgage remortgage remortgage" style programme running? What to do? What to do? Do I sign now at 5% fixed 5 years or do I sign Friday at 18%?

It doesn't really matter in the longer term. The markets think that the Conservatives will cut the deficit, so the immediate reaction to a Conservative victory will be positive. However, in the medium term, it really doesn't matter who wins.

The Conservatives won't make the necessary cuts, and therefore even if things look good on Friday, it is only a mattert of months before the IMF are knocking at the door(or the other way around).

I don't know the answer to your original question. It depends on whether UK GILTS are traded in other time zones. If they are, then I can see that it makes sense to allow trading here at a time when there could be significant changes.

i was reading about it on another site....

does the BOE base rate get used for Government bonds or is a different rate used?

ie could the BOE base rate stay low for uk savers but have a high rate for bonds? or will the base rate have to rise?

I suspect volatile is the word for how it will be... but I can't really see a gilt collapse by the end of the day (maybe on the opening!). It's far too obvious.

Meanwhile gilt futures making new highs as I type this, all the continent's fault...
